France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Revered by collectors, the Chateau Pommard Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2015 is a monumental expression of French winemaking. Produced on a 20-hectare slice of Burgundy's renowned Côte d'Or terroir, this red blend reflects the quality nurtured in this Monopole vineyard since 1791. Crafted predominantly from Pinot Noir grapes, it harmoniously merges power, elegance and longevity. Boasting a deep ruby robe, its decadent bouquet of maturated dark fruit, earth and spice hints at its complexity. The wine is vinified carefully using manual selection and individual fermentation by parcel. Predominantly aged in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months, it has a profound structure, yet subtle tannins. The Chateau Pommard estate, esteemed for centuries, perpetuates tradition whilst embracing modern techniques, achieving an unparalleled balance on the palate. Wine Advocate (100)Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cheval Blanc is still incredibly primary at this very youthful stage. With coaxing, it unfurls to reveal beguiling notions of ripe black cherries, mulberries, licorice, baking spices and smoked meats with touches of incense and potpourri plus wafts of cast iron pan and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, very rich, very firm/taut and with very ripe, fine-grained tannins, it allows a glimpse at its incredible depth of flavors with a very long multi-layered finish. Wow. |

Wine Advocate (93)Beautifully fresh in its purple color, the 2015 Anjou Cabernet Franc opens with ripe and fleshy cherry fruit on the nose. On the palate, this is a highly elegant, finessed and concentrated red with crunchy but ripe tannins and refreshing mineral acidity that leads to a long and linear finish. This is a concentrated and elegant Cabernet Franc with remarkable finesse. I'd keep it for another couple of years, though, and then you can surely enjoy it for up to two or more decades. |

Wine Advocate (93+)The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is the king of the cellar chez Clerget in this vintage, offering up a ripe but bright nose of Griotte cherry, ripe plums, dried flowers and caramelized citrus peel. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, bright and vibrant, with excellent depth and a tight-knit core, framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins that lend a stony quality to the lingering finish. This is a lovely Caillerets from some of the domaine’s best vine material. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (97)The 2015 Climens is notoriously difficult to taste in its youth, the aromatics often shutting down for the first few years and consequently showing poorly in blind tastings. Indeed, this transpires during the blind tasting of 2015 Sauternes so I retrieved another bottle and allowed it 48 hours to open. This is where this note comes from. It has a bashful bouquet compared to its peers with notes of beeswax and honeycomb, just a touch of jasmine developing in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a lightly spiced opening, notes of stem ginger and rhubarb with a vivacious and quite persistent finish that bodes well for the future. It is a great Climens in the making, but it will need a decade in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)Sophie Fourcade's 2015 Clos Saint Martin has turned out beautifully. Dense, pliant and impeccably layered, it also offers a good bit of freshness to play off the sweet red stone fruit flavors. Tasted three times. |

Vinous (97+)(13.7% alcohol): Pale yellow. Profound aromas of lemon, lime and crushed rock. Ineffably silky on entry, then tightly coiled and pungently mineral in the middle palate, conveying an impression of great density without weight. No sign of hot-vintage character here! The endless crushed-rock finish conveys a powerful sense of solidity and the structure of a red wine. Raphael Coche likes this best among his 2015s for its balance but will probably hold it back for a much later release. He noted that the family's 2010 Corton-Charlemagne will be released in September, adding that the 2015 version is totally different in style but close in quality. |

Wine Advocate (92)The 2015 Meursault Village is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with notes of crisp yellow orchard fruit, Anjou pear, white flowers, honeycomb and hazelnut cream. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, with beautiful balance, succulent underlying acids and an elegant framing of dry extract that lends a mouthwatering quality to the long, penetrating finish. Without either the strong cooperage or reductive signatures of yesteryear's Coche-Dury, it exemplifies the new stylistic direction taken by Raphaël Coche, and it's a terrific success, surpassing both the 2014 and 2013 renditions. |

Tim Atkin MW (96)All destemmed, aged for 18 months in demi-muids. Remarkable aromatic finesse already, boding well for the future; it majors on rich, ripe fruit rather than oak. Very full and rounded, but full of life and energy, this is buzzing with vitality. It has fresh, lip-smacking acidity and tannin, and a very long finish. A fantastic balance between freshness, concentration and pure, regal Hermitage fruit. Whatever style of Hermitage you like, this shouldn’t disappoint - it has depth and power as well as finesse. Wine Advocate (90-92)The 2015 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru, which is a blend of 60% Breterins and 40% Les Bas des Duresses close to Monthélie, had received a bit of SO2 a week before my visit and was due to be transferred into tank for around two months. It contains 10% whole bunch fruit this year and sees 20% new oak. It has a sensual bouquet with black cherries, raspberry and confit fruit all with fine delineation. The tannins here are finer than the village cru as you would expect, the acidity nicely judged (3.4 pH) with a poised and tensile finish that delivers a welcome salinity on the finish. This comes highly recommended and is certainly one of the best 2015s that I have encountered from the appellation. |

Tasted at the Clos l’Eglise vertical. |

Vinous (93)This was Charly Foucault’s last vintage. Fruity and floral on the nose with an edge of smoke. Big boned and intense, but with a smoothness to this wine, with lots of raspberry, cranberry, and cherry, silky tannins and a long cool finish. |

Decanter (94)Another 2015 with a floral scent of violets and roses along with a blood-like iron element, on a foundation of brisk blackcurrant fruit. The tell-tale minty top-note comes to the fore after aeration, and the juicy palate is both fleshy and fresh, sustained by racy tannins. It has a vibrant finish with a salty tang. |

Vinous (93-95)Opaque ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of ripe dark berries, candied lavender, cola and white pepper, accompanied by a hint of musky earth in the background. Juicy and broad on the palate, offering alluringly sweet black currant, cherry liqueur and spicecake flavors that pick up a refreshingly bitter edge with air. The dark berry note repeats strongly on the youthfully tannic finish, which clings with superb persistence and lingering florality. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)Sophie Fourcade's 2015 Clos Saint Martin has turned out beautifully. Dense, pliant and impeccably layered, it also offers a good bit of freshness to play off the sweet red stone fruit flavors. I especially like the brightness here, especially in 2015, where it is easy for wines to be out of balance. A closing flourish of sweet red cherry and raspberry fruit leaves a lasting impression. |

Very impressive, complete wine. |

This Aligoté is forward, bright and fresh. Very easy to drink and overall satisfying. With a bit more complexity than might be expected this is one of the better values among entry-level whites this year. Worth stocking up on at this price.
