Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Boudots from young Maxime Chuerlin is slightly deeper in colour than its peers. It has an intense dark cherry, blueberry and cassis-scented nose that is relatively modern in style, well crafted and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet ripe tannin, well-judged acidity, sensual in style, more voluminous and richer than Méo-Camuzet's Aux Murgers 2012, but retaining impressive delineation and terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with (again), quite an oaky entry, pastille-like with fine tannins. Maybe it is missing a little tension on the finish, otherwise, this represents a very decent and quite delicious 2018 Nuit Saint-Georges. Only half the number of barrels were produced this year due to very small bunch weight. This has vibrant red berry fruit, wild strawberry, shaved black truffle and light crushed stone aromas. Nevertheless, it has an exquisite bouquet with beautifully defined, minerally red fruit that seems to blossom in the glass.
