France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95)(5-Star Wine) An attractive faint green tint to the colour. The nose shows no signs of heat or heaviness. This is magical on the palate, absolutely fills the mouth, ripe lemons on top of rich pear fruit, but nothing peachy or over-ripe. A brilliant example of Charmes, as the vineyard and the vintage are completely in harmony. Drink from 2026-2035. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)The 2021 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru is strict with wet pavement and green apple/pear scents on the nose, though it does open with time in the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry, yet this is somehow conservative and does not really exploit the potential of this 1er Cru. Played it safe? Then again, there is a lovely creamy finish with a dash of spice that urges you back for more. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (92+)Perfumed aromas of hazelnut, lime and spice. Rich but racy and stylish; youthful and minerally. Rather elegantly styled wine, quite precise for the vintage. Very long on the finish. Lafon now uses just 50% new oak for his Genevrieres; as recently as 1992, this was made in all new barrels. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (94-96)The 2018 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru has a refined bouquet with scents of pressed yellow flowers infusing the citrus fruit, touches of ocean spray emerging and lending complexity with time. The palate is extremely well balanced. A quintessential Genevrières with a killer saline finish that is an absolute joy. Wonderful. |

Vinous (92-93)(tasted from tank): Pale, bright green-tinged yellow. Very pure aromas of lemon, lime and honey. Rich and lively on the palate, conveying a strong impression of saline dry extract but also a distinctly fine-grained texture. Precise flavors of lime blossom, menthol and white pepper are nicely framed and extended by harmonious acidity. An excellent showing. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2021 Meursault Goutte d'Or 1er Cru has an unerring sense of harmony on the nose, very focused and precise, demonstrating a little more concentration than the Bouchère. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine balance, crisp acidity, orange rind and touches of apricot, mixed with walnut and almond towards its sustained finish. This is superb. |

Enters the mouth silky and thick but lively, showing a seamless texture along with lovely gingery spicy lift. Vinous (96-98)The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru rivets you to the spot with crushed pebble and crushed limestone scents that could only really originate from this vineyard. Such intensity! The beautifully balanced palate delivers a fabulous line of acidity, notes of orange zest and white peach and a stunning crescendo toward the finish, which shows amazing persistence. A Les Perrières with class. Brilliant. |

Vinous (96-98)The 2019 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has a wondrous, life-affirming bouquet that asserts its authority and class over the other Premier Crus. No disrespect, but they just do not convey the same enthralling degree of mineralité and tension on the nose, by some margin. The palate is supremely well balanced with great penetration and outstanding nerve and mineralité toward the finish. Hints of stem ginger and white pepper tantalize on the aftertaste. Superb. |

Decanter (97)Although somewhat reserved at present, this has the makings of a monumental wine. Quince, ripe apricot and nectarine aromas are accented with hints of spice and marzipan. The texture has impressive density and power, balancing substance and elegance to linger impressively on the palate. Should begin to open three to five years after release and will drink well for 30 years or more. A portion of Lafon’s three-quarters of a hectare here has been replanted, but this is only the old-vine portion. |

Vinous (91-93)(on its finings, with a higher level of CO2 due to the fact that its malolactic fermentation finished very late, in tank): A note of musky reduction to the cooler aromas of nectarine, crushed stone and hazelnut. Then surprisingly silky and suave but tight and high-pitched in the mouth, with its stone fruit flavors conveying a distinctly dry impression and solid underlying structure. This sexy but backward wine will benefit from some aeration at the bottling and has the structure to age. This was actually the last premier cru vineyard picked in 2016 because the fruit here ripens later. The vibrant, tongue-dusting finish shows a lightly saline quality. |
