France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Burghound (92)(Outstanding) A perfumed and much more floral-suffused nose speaks of white peach, lemon rind and grilled nuts. The succulent, intense and stony middle weight flavors possess a taut muscularity before terminating in a bitter lemon suffused and bone-dry finish. This too is most impressive for its level and particularly for the outstanding depth. |

Wine Advocate (93)Aromas of crisp Anjou pear, lime zest, orange oil, fresh hazelnuts and white flowers introduce the 2019 Meursault Village, a medium to full-bodied, layered and incisive wine that's chalky and concentrated, with racy acids and an abundance of structuring dry extract. When I was served this wine blind a month after tasting it at the domaine, I mistook it for its 2017 counterpart, which should give some indication of the pitch-perfect balance Raphaël Coche succeeded in attaining in the more extreme 2019 vintage. |

Vinous (89)The 2021 Meursault Village, this vintage a blend of all their vineyard holdings because the yield was so small (for example, just two barrels from half a hectare in Narvaux), has a taut and delineated bouquet with crushed stone infusing the malic aromas. The palate is well-balanced with a twist of lemon on the entry, segueing into more orange rind notes towards the finish. Moderate length. Enjoy this over the next decade. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2022 Meursault Village is lovely, unfurling in the glass with notes of citrus and crisp stone fruit mingled with white flowers, fresh hazelnuts and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, with terrific density and cut, its satiny attack segues into a layered, structured mid-palate, concluding with a discreetly oak-inflected finish. This vintage should offer a comparatively broad drinking window. |

Vinous (94+)Complex, lively aromas of lime, minerals and vanilla. Structured and almost shockingly intense; great material here. A step up from the '97 in density. Extremely fresh and vibrant. A tactile, mouthfilling wine to drink and to eat. Palate-staining finish. I kept raising my score as I came back for more. |

Vinous (93+)Very closed nose hints at wet stone. Rich and ripe in the mouth, with palate-saturating flavors of crushed stone and orange. As lush and sweet as this is, it avoids crossing over to exotic. Very deep and very young: should age very well for a 2006. |

Vinous (94)The 2020 Meursault Rougeots has a razor-sharp bouquet with yellow plum, honeysuckle and jasmine, very complex for Village Cru (though it has form!). The palate is beautifully balanced with fine acidity, waxy in texture, almond and orange pith mixed with a touch of stem ginger towards the composed yet persistent finish. Excellent. |

Vinous (93)Sexy aromas of peach and grilled nuts, plus the sulfidey complexity shown by so many of Coche's wines. Then ripe, supple and dry, with lovely lift and clarity to the mineral and floral flavors. Wonderfully juicy, pure wine with a very long, vibrant back end. |
