France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Very darkly coloured indeed. An extraordinarily deep and Mourvèdre-heavy fug of a scent; deep, but so fresh and searching. It's not overly full-bodied or heavy. Great surging acidity. It's tannic and will take a long time to soften, but promises great freshness and a long life - don't open too young. Around 60% of the blend comes from old-vine Mourvèdre from the Courrieux vineyard. Grapes are destemmed, fermented in tronconic wooden vats using natural yeasts after a brief cold maceration with regular punching down.Inc. GSTSG$1,802.08 -

Lastly, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin is another 2022 that has some resemblance to this estate’s 2009. It just screams Mourvèdre with its wild aromatics of bloody red and blue fruits, herbes de Provence, rare meat, and peppery, spicy nuances. These all carry to a full-bodied yet still balanced, elegant 2022 that stays focused and precise on the palate, with building tannins and a salty finish that makes you salivate. I know there's a tendency to hide these away and think that they're never ready to drink, but they offer incredible pleasure with just short-term cellaring, and this will be no exception.Inc. The 2016 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel was bottled just two weeks before my visit, hence the plus sign attached to its rating. Planted just outside the boundaries of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, the vines here average 80 years old. Mouthwatering aromas of red fruit and spice lead the way, backed by a full-bodied wine that's creamy and lush but also silky and vibrant. As always, it's one of the best Côtes du Rhône wines from a given vintage.Inc. GSTSG$678.29 -

Tasted as a sample blended from several foudres, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel features scents of sun-warmed stones and ripe raspberries. Medium to full-bodied, it's plush and open-knit, already giving a lot of pleasure, and finishing zesty and long.Inc. GSTSG$677.81 -

A well-balanced, perfectly ripe, very fresh expression this year. Fine tannins, with good grip, harmonious acidity and dark streak of concentrated fruit into the finish. You'll be glad you bought some of this. Not hugely deep or hugely complex, but beautifully balanced. 30% Grenache, 30% MourvInc. GSTSG$675.63 -
Famille Perrin Tasting note: A fabulous year for the reds of Coudoulet of Beaucastel. Full-bodied, lush, velvety in texture, featuring notes cherry and plum paste, laced with stony minerality and garrigue accents. Very balanced wine with beautiful tannins. The finish has great length and very complex.Inc. GSTSG$447.86 -

Spicy herbs, ground pepper, leather, and spicy red and black fruits define the 2022 Côtes Du Rhône Coudoulet De Beaucastel, a medium-bodied, elegant, complex red that should age nicely for 8-10 years, if not longer. The 2019 Beaumont impresses on the nose with intense blackberry and briary aromas, sous-bois and tobacco, all whilst maintaining its delineation. The palate is supple and silky on the entry. There is well judged acidity, plenty of cedar and seaweed, tinged black fruit and a spicy finish. Now, this is a bloody great Beaumont.Inc. GSTSG$391.22 -

I loved the 2022 Château Beaumont, a richly textured, medium to full-bodied, concentrated 2022 that does everything right. Darker currants, smoky cherries, spicy wood, and leather-like notes all define the aromatics, and it's nicely balanced, with plenty of mid-palate depth and velvety tannins. Count me in as a fan. Immediately delicious, this is a sexy Pomerol with reserves of tannin to hold it sweet and fresh. The deep woodland cherry flavors last, plumped by tannins that give it an earthy edge. A hint of tangerine zest in the aroma shows the ripeness of the vintage. Suited to drinking over the next ten years, to serve with beef grilled over vine cuttings.Inc. GSTSG$1,480.18 -

From an historic estate in Pomerol dating back to the 18th century, the 2012 Beauregard (70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc) is a successful effort. The wine is dense ruby/purple and shows loads of licorice, blackcurrant and black cherry in a dense, medium to full-bodied very pure, rich style. This is somewhat of a sleeper of the vintage in Pomerol and very noteworthy. This should drink well for 10-15 years.Inc. GSTSG$470.23 -
