The 2018 Meursault Boucheres 1er Cru underwent an élevage identical to that of the Désirée, yet this is far superior due to the influence of terroir. Fresh and vibrant on the nose, it has tangible mineralité and vigor, while the palate is very well balanced with tangy orange peel and quince. Brimming with tension. The impressive, powerful finish lingers in the mouth. Very refined yet intense.

The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru rivets you to the spot with crushed pebble and crushed limestone scents that could only really originate from this vineyard. Such intensity! The beautifully balanced palate delivers a fabulous line of acidity, notes of orange zest and white peach and a stunning crescendo toward the finish, which shows amazing persistence. A Les Perrières with class. Brilliant.

The 2018 Meursault Clos-de-la-Barre has a reserved and quite austere bouquet at the moment, which surprising considering the growing season. This is a stubborn Meursault. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity and quite saline in the mouth, with a touch of orange peel on the sharp, racy finish. Excellent.

The 2018 Meursault Blagny La Genelottes 1er Cru has just a slight reduction on the nose, a touch of struck match. The palate is well defined with good acidity, citric and tensile. A little closed toward the finish with hints of sour lemon and citronelle. Delicate and pretty, yet I think it will give up to 20 years’ drinking pleasure.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny 1er Cru has a crisp, slightly flinty bouquet that unfolds nicely in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a malic entry, quite terse at first and steely on the finish, a little vanilla and almond lingering on the aftertaste. Very fine.

In clear evidence at this early stage, it has floral and boxwood characters and a nutty oak-derived influence. There's even an intriguing note of peppermint on the sinewy, lengthy finish. In a mid-weight, linear style with a firm, phenolic finish that almost requires knife and fork. This needs more time in bottle to shed its austere frame, but if you're not in a hurry...

Jancis Robinson (17+)

Cool and without obvious richness. Really refreshing and with great substance and density. More approachable in youth than I remember some Silex bottlings. You could happily enjoy this layered wine now but it should age well too. It really does taste flinty!!
