Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (92)From vines set on the limestone plateau, this has sappy salinity and a powerful tug of chalky tannins alongside bright berry fruit. Enjoyable. 40% new oak. |

James Suckling (95-96)Really pure fruit here with blackberries and boysenberries. Some spice like white pepper. Medium-bodied with tight and fine tannins, and a fresh and bright finish. Terrific potential. 95% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon. |

Jeb Dunnuck (93-95)The deep purple-hued (it's almost blue) 2022 Château Soutard is going to be up there with the top vintages from this château, which has a great terroir just outside the village of Saint-Emilion. Candied violets, chocolate, crushed stone, and blue fruits define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a great mid-palate, ripe yet present tannins, and a terrific sense of freshness that keeps this interesting and light on its feet. It's going to evolve gracefully. |

Jeb Dunnuck (94-97)Another brilliant wine from Marie Lefévère, the 2022 Château Soutard-Cadet comes from a 2.7-hectare vineyard on the upper plateau (near Soutard) and is 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Still resting in 75% new oak, this medium to full-bodied, pure, concentrated Saint-Emilion has lots of both red and blue fruits (black raspberries, cassis), notes of crushed stone, violets, and spicy wood, ripe tannins, and terrific mid-palate depth. As with all Marie's wines in 2022, I love its purity as well as its balance. |

Jeb Dunnuck (96-98)Coming from an incredible hillside terroir on the eastern side of Saint-Emilion, the 2022 Château Tertre Roteboeuf reveals a dense purple hue to go with a kaleidoscopic array of cassis, blueberries, cherries, acacia flowers, violets, and orange blossom. Always exotic, singular, and overflowing with character, the 2022 looks to be no exception and is full-bodied, with a layered, elegant mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. |

The Wine Cellar Insider (95-97)Deep purple in hue, the wine pops with blackberries, black cherries, licorice, flowers, wet earth, and blue fruit on the nose. The palate, is rich, lush, and packed with layers of chalk, black cherries, chocolate, espresso and 5 spice. The finish is creamy, vibrant, and loaded with sweet, ripe, dark red fruits that linger. The wine is made from blending 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc. 15% ABV, 3.45 pH. The harvest took place September 10-October 3. Yields were 39 hectoliters per hectare. |

Decanter (98-100)A supremely excellent Troplong in 2022 that has the hallmarks of a concentrated vintage but delivered with ultimate poise and precision. A joy to taste and once again one of my favourites. Sharp, sleek, sour, bright and cool - I love the instant freshness and drinkability of this, tannins are fresh and detailed with both a plush and cool texture underpinned by layers of flavour with depth and concentration. Clearly muscular but pixelated - it’s not tense, lean or austere but generous, charming and playful. Supple and succulent, still with ripe strawberry, cherry and raspberry fruit, a mix of bright red and black berries with wet stone, liquorice, dark chocolate and graphite giving the terroir. Silky, balanced acidity and overall so well controlled and presented. 3.5pH. Ageing 50% new oak, reduced by 5% plus 21% in 20hl foudre, 24% one wine barrels. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97-99)Tasted on multiple occasions, the 2022 Château Valandraud is based on 88% Merlot and the balance an even split of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has incredible purity in its cassis and darker, almost blue fruits as well as notes of candied violets, licorice, and spicy oak. Full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, it has perfect tannins, a great mid-palate, and flawless balance. It reminds me of hypothetical blend of the 2010 and 2009, with perhaps plenty of similarities to the 2020 as well. |

Jeb Dunnuck (94-96)The 2022 Vieux Château Mazerat checks in as 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that saw the standard 80% new French oak. It’s a ripe, sexy, blockbuster-styled beauty offering lots of dark cherry and plum fruits, some obvious minerality, full-bodied richness, beautiful tannins, and some meaty, iron, tobacco-laced nuances. |

Jeb Dunnuck (94-96+)Newly acquired by the Lefévère family (Sansonnet, Soutard Cadet, and Moulin du Cadet), Château Villemaurine covers eight hectares of vines (six are in production) planted on pure limestone soils just beside the village. Based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc aging in 70% new barrels, the 2022 Château Villemaurine has a killer bouquet of black raspberry and cassis-like fruits interwoven with liquid flowers, camphor, and chalky minerality. With integrated oak, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great mix of both richness and freshness, this is a brilliant wine in the making, and I suspect the best is still to come from this address. |
