  • Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

The 2013 Barolo Cerequio is a wine of deep, underlying power, grit and determination. The wine opens to black fruit and earthy overtones with sticky tar, licorice and crushed river stone. Surprisingly, the primary fruit is not a protagonist. Instead, the wine offers a smoky and evolved personality that comes as a pleasant surprise. You can taste the youth of the wine, however, on the palate. The nervous tannins need time to integrate and soften.

  • Nervi-Conterno Gattinara Vigna Molsino 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

The Molsino vineyard was planted in 1992 and enjoys a protected position at the heart of a little amphitheater of hills. It is planted at about 400 meters above sea level, but the daytime heat and sunshine settles softly into this unique vineyard basin. The 2013 Gattinara Vigna Molsino shows power, firmness and finesse. These traits suggest that it needs a little more bottle age to further its evolution. Of the two vineyard selections, this wine is probably the most cellar worthy. The bouquet shows tight aromas of cassis, spice and campfire ash. Although Roberto Conterno promises that he will not change the Nervi house style, it will be fascinating to taste this wine in a few years, when it is under the full tutelage of the maker of Monfortino. One thing must be said for both Monfortino and Molsino—these wines benefit from first rate quality of fruit.

  • Paolo Conterno Ginestra Barolo Riserva 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

Reviewed by Monica Larner Issue Date 17th Jun 2021 Source June 2021 Week 3, The Wine Advocate The headline wine from Paolo Conterno is the beautifully packaged 2013 Barolo Ginestra Riserva. I always appreciate the house style of this winery located in the heart of the Ginestra cru at the back side of Monforte d'Alba and looking toward Serralunga d'Alba. These wines always show an extra degree of richness and dark fruit. The delivery is broad and rich instead of vertical and sharp, and the wine wraps evenly over the palate. This expression from the cool 2013 vintage shows good structure, freshness, integrated tannins and a long succession of dark fruits. This was a release of some 4,000 bottles.

  • Paolo Scavino Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

The 2013 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata Riserva was released in January of 2019, and once again it looks to be a top prize. Licorice and flowers dominate the bouquet, and its beautiful red fruit is generous throughout. This wine has always been a beauty and consistently has had a high price tag to reflect that quality, going back to the first vintages of the 1990s. It has regularly sold for about $200 every year for the last decade. These vines are old, some of them very old (reaching the ripe age of 60 years old in 1990s, when many of them were replanted with carefully selected clones), producing an elegance and concentration that brings intensity and a high standard of aromas. This Barolo without a doubt shows its pedigree and a quality of noble perfumes that demonstrate characteristics of the greatest Nebbiolo vintages, all delivered with excellent concentration. The magic lingers on the palate, right up to the finish.

    Wine Advocate (94)

The 2013 Barolo Mariondino is a large-scale Barolo with broad shoulders and a deep footprint. The wine opens carefully to dark fruit, spice, leather and moist chewing tobacco. The aromas are savory, penetrating and thick. This Barolo offers substantial textural richness and a firm tannic punch that makes it way too young to approach now. The 2013 Barolo Mosconi is the most masculine of these Barolos. A wine of weight and gravitas, the Mosconi offers notable power from start to finish. Black cherry, chocolate, dark spice and gravel fill out the wine's broad frame effortlessly. (15.5% alcohol): Inky ruby. Superripe aromas and flavors of black cherry syrup, red cherry jam, chocolate and minerals. Spicy, peppery tannins and bright acidity provide plenty of backbone to this opulent, ultra-suave wine, which tastes like it was made with air-dried grapes. Dark red cherry, plum smoke, tobacco and violet notes are beautifully defined in Petrolo's 2013 Bòggina. Rich and pliant through to the finish, this classy 100% Sangiovese delivers outstanding quality to match its inviting personality. Today, the flavors are naturally quite primary, so a few years of cellaring is warranted. Tasted next to the Bòggina Anfora, the straight Bòggina has more mid-palate intensity and overtness, as well as an expression of fruit that is more closely aligned to the Petrolo house style. • Pio Cesare Barolo 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

The Pio Cesare 2013 Barolo offers all of the plentiful qualities that make this such a memorable vintage. Because the growing season was slightly cooler compared to the two years preceding it, 2013 offers a great sense of freshness and brightness. Fruit was sourced from seven different vineyard sites (with much of it coming from Serralunga d'Alba). Starting in 2015, Monforte d'Alba fruit will be added. The tannins are tightly integrated within the firm fabric of the wine. Yet, the finish is round and supple. This Barolo offers characteristic aromas of wild berry, black truffle and cola. It is executed in a very traditional style with botte grande and a tiny part barrique to give the wine a tad more oxygen during its integration and aging process.

    Vinous (90)

The 2013 Nebbiolo d'Alba Ca' Veja is a delicious entry-level offering from Paitin. Wild strawberry, mint and rose petal give the Ca' Veja its distinctive high-toned aromatics. Succulent, silky tannins give the 2013 much of its up-front appeal. The 2013 is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next few years. The mid-weight, lifted style is quite typical of the wines of Alba. Paitin gave the 2013 one year in cask and a second year in tonneau.

  • Parusso Barolo Mariondino 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

The 2013 Barolo Mariondino is a large-scale Barolo with broad shoulders and a deep footprint. The wine opens carefully to dark fruit, spice, leather and moist chewing tobacco. The aromas are savory, penetrating and thick. This Barolo offers substantial textural richness and a firm tannic punch that makes it way too young to approach now. The wine is macerated on the skins and stems. Only prolonged cellar aging will break down the firm inner core it displays now.

  • Parusso Barolo Mosconi 2013 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93)

The 2013 Barolo Mosconi is the most masculine of these Barolos. A wine of weight and gravitas, the Mosconi offers notable power from start to finish. Black cherry, chocolate, dark spice and gravel fill out the wine's broad frame effortlessly. The whole clusters add a measure of aromatic nuance, but the Mosconi lacks some of the freshness of the best wines in this range. There is no shortage of pure power though, that much is evident.

  • Passopisciaro Franchetti 2013 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

(15.5% alcohol): Inky ruby. Superripe aromas and flavors of black cherry syrup, red cherry jam, chocolate and minerals. Spicy, peppery tannins and bright acidity provide plenty of backbone to this opulent, ultra-suave wine, which tastes like it was made with air-dried grapes. Extremely long on the finish, closing with a strong note of sweet pipe tobacco and a hint of volcanic ash. In fact, the smoky note was so evident that I couldn’t help thinking that this is what it must be like to drink a cigar.

  • Petrolo Boggina Toscana 2013 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93)

Dark red cherry, plum smoke, tobacco and violet notes are beautifully defined in Petrolo's 2013 Bòggina. Rich and pliant through to the finish, this classy 100% Sangiovese delivers outstanding quality to match its inviting personality. Today, the flavors are naturally quite primary, so a few years of cellaring is warranted. Tasted next to the Bòggina Anfora, the straight Bòggina has more mid-palate intensity and overtness, as well as an expression of fruit that is more closely aligned to the Petrolo house style. But that is really splitting hairs, as both Bògginas are delicious.
