Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

Wine Advocate (97)The 2009 Musigny is every bit as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel. A knock-out bouquet leads to super-ripe, floral infused red berries. The 2009 boasts extraordinary perfume, silky tannins and phenomenal balance. I especially like the understated intensity. This is a breathtaking effort from Pierre Vincent and La Vougeraie. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. |

Tim Atkin MW (99)There are only three barrels of this in 2012 (at the best of times, it's a hand-made, small quantity wine), but what a sublime Musigny it is. Floral and scented with velvety tannins, effortless concentration, some spicy whole bunch notes, subtle oak and a sappy, sikly mid-palate. So good, you could drink it now. But wait! |

Vinous (93-96)(tasted from barrel; 100% vendange entier; from 50-year-old vines): Deep red with ruby tones. Knockout nose offers kaleidoscopic scents of raspberry, blood orange, crushed rock and pepper complicated by torrefaction notes of cocoa and mocha and lifted by lilac and rose petal. Incredibly silky on entry, then expands and builds in the middle palate, with an element of noble vegetility adding another dimension to the flavors of fruits, flowers and stone. Superb acidity here, which Pierre Vincent says is due to the concentration of all of the wine's elements. Finishes with outstanding peppery energy and lift: one of the longest wines of my November tour and nearly impossible to spit. There are just three barrels of this elixir: one new, one one year old and one two years old. Built for a long life in bottle. |

Wine Advocate (95-97)The 2014 Musigny Grand Cru includes 100% whole cluster fruit and comprises of three barrels, one of them new and the others one- and two-years-old. It has a really lovely, sensual bouquet that is already very elegant and finessed with flint-tinged red cherry and wild strawberry fruit. It is just very very precise. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins with bitter cherry and a touch of spice, embroidered with life-affirming mineralité and a sense of precision on the finish that instantaneously informs you that you are in propitious terroir-tory. What a great Musigny from winemaker Pierre Vincent. |

Vinous (97)The 2015 Musigny Grand Les Cru has gorgeous red berry fruit on a complex, engaging nose laced with sous-bois/tertiary scents and just a hint of burnt toast or charcoal with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sublime tannic structure, completely harmonious and symmetrical, fanning out almost nonchalantly toward the finish with wondrous red berry fruit and minerals. Stunning. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. |

Wine Advocate (95-97)There are two barrels of the 2016 Musigny Grand Cru, one new and one used, 100% whole bunch. There is much more gusto on the nose compared to the Bonnes-Mares, with upfront, expressive red cherry, wild strawberry and cold stone aromas, later complemented by wilted rose petals and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied, but there is much more body and presence here compared to the Bonnes-Mares: fine tannin, just the right amount of salinité with a complex and sustained finish. There is a nobility about this Musigny, and that is what we expect to find in a bottle. Superb. |

Vinous (95)The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru presents a profound nose of brilliant delineation and focus, delivering pure brambly red fruit and simmering underlying mineralité ; wilted rose petal scents surface after 10 minutes in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, very harmonious and silky-smooth. This is not the most powerful or persistent Musigny you will ever taste, but it is undeniably pretty. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. |

Vinous (96)The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru has a complex nose with evidence of some stem addition here lending an underlying peppery character. You could argue that at this stage it rather obscures the terroir expression, though the whole bunch seems commensurate with the fruit. The palate is crisp and precise, the stems lend a discrete peppery character. Not a powerful Musigny, yet perhaps the most elegant with a sensual kirsch-, liquorice-tinged finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)100% whole bunch vinification. Most of the vines date back to 1928-29 with a few from 1989. Glowing imperial purple. The nose mirrors the majesty. Tim Atkin MW (98)Coming from two parcels totaling only 0.2 hectares, this was whole cluster-fermented then aged in 40% new oak. It is seamless. Scents of mulberries and blueberries deliver impressive fruit purity. The spice-laden palate has a luxurious, taffeta-like texture with svelte tannins and elegant acidity. It is so well-knit that it is almost ready to drink now, but it will deliver pleasure for decades to come. 2024-42 |

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Musigny Grand Cru contains 100% whole bunches like the Bonnes-Mares this year, but they are better assimilated.
