Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru has as well-defined and mineral-driven bouquet, discrete but nicely focused. The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village, matured in 15% new oak, has an intense bouquet with cold flint and sea cave aromas that you would guess come from a much cooler growing season. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a touch of bitter lemon and a dab of spice towards the cohesive and quite persistent finish. Very long. Closure: Diam 30Inc. GSTSG$2,992.53 -

5-Star Wine Just bottled at the end of April. Made from the usual six plots. A pale lemon yellow. The nose has been knocked back a bit and is not yet showing much fruit. Then a little white fruit starts to emerge with some graphite, and a little bit of gunflint. Racy yet ripe with several layers of flavour and excellent length, the acidity perfectly wound in. On the assumption that the bouquet comes back as it should a little later on, after getting over the bottling, this will surely be a 5 star wineInc. GSTSG$3,048.16 -

There are some 3,500 cases of the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Célébration (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless wine evocative of smoky berries, spices and licorice, framed by creamy new oak. More polished and elegant than the muscular 2018, the last rendition of this bottling (which blends more than a dozen of Beaune's premiers crus), it will offer a broad drinking window.Inc. As an esteemed wine connoisseur, I am delighted to introduce the Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vv 2019. A quintessentially prestigious yet artisanal name in the world of Chablis, Louis Michel & Fils flawlessly marries traditional winemaking methods with modern techniques. This specific vintage was cultivated in the prestigious vineyards of Butteaux, renowned for their Kimmeridgian limestone soil. The wine then spent 12 months on fine lees in stainless-steel tanks, respecting the tradition of non-oak Chablis.
The result is truly enchanting: a dazzling golden wine, unveiling an aromatic bouquet of ripe, citrus fruits and dried flowers, with a whisper of mineral depth. On the palate, the structure is remarkably precise, brimming with an exquisite tension of acid and fruit, and culminates in a delicate, lengthy finish. The Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vv 2019 is a pristine expression of the quintessential elegance and profound complexity found in the fine wines of Chablis.

Discover the ethereal allure of the Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vv 2020, a delicate composition nurtured in the picturesque vineyards of Chablis, in Bourgogne, France. This discerning Chardonnay is the work of Louis Michel & Fils, a remarkable producer known for their commitment to tradition and respect for terroir since 1850.
From the steep slopes of the Butteaux vineyard, the grapes for the 2020 vintage enjoyed excellent climatic conditions. The wine's elegant texture, crisp acuity, and balanced minerality can be attributed to the Kimmeridgian soil, abundant in marine fossils. Adhering to parcellar vinification, each cluster is aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks to preserve its unique character. With tantalising notes of white fruit, coupled with subtle hints of spices and a long finish, the Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vv 2020 offers an enchanting gustatory experience deserving of any fine wine authority's attention.

The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is soft, silky and wonderfully understated, as wines from this site tend to be. Sweet perfumed overtones give the Clos its weightless, sensual feel, and yet there is plenty of depth in the wine that is just waiting to emerge. Lemon confit, mint, white pepper and wild flowers all come together in this ethereal, graceful and somewhat elusive Chablis.Inc. GSTSG$894.24 -

The 2019 Meursault Santenots 1er Cru, aged for 12 months in barrel and racked into stainless steel on the lees, comes across a little laconic and backward on the nose with light smoke and beeswax aromas. The palate is better with good weight and concentration on the entry. Touches of dried honey and a little brioche, fresh, if uncomplicated compared to the Volnays. I think this was just a little reduced at the time of my tasting.Inc. GSTSG$1,634.35 -
Vinous (89-91)
The 2020 Meursault Santenots 1er Cru was very primal and leesy on the nose, grapefruit, camomile and kiwi fruit scents emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, pear and gooseberry on the entry, cutting acidity with a straightforward, lightly spiced finish. Maybe just a little conservative, but this is well-crafted.Inc. GSTSG$2,103.05 -

The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Champans has a feisty, much more gourmand bouquet compared to its siblings at this early stage with almost meaty red berry fruit infused with limestone/flinty scents. The palate is very focused with an abiding sense of symmetry, long in the mouth with fine tannins (although not as filigree as the Taillepieds) but with the same silky and harmonious texture toward the long finish. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$1,279.07 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2019 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru follows the Taillepieds and maybe it should have been the other way round since this is much more closed and broody. Earthy red berry fruit, touches of truffle and bay eventually emerge from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with solid backbone, not the most elegant Champans as there is a bit of grip and sinew on the finish. But because of that I suspect it will age extremely well. The 2019 Volnay Clos des Ducs 1er Cru has a typically aristocratic nose with layers of red and black fruit infused with shaved black truffle, crushed stone and pressed iris petals. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy saturated tannins, a voluminous Clos des Ducs that fills the mouth. Maybe a little spicier than usual, there is a generous pinch of cracked black pepper towards the finish and its normal extremely persistent aftertaste. The 2020 Volnay Clos des Ducs 1er Cru was picked around 23 August. It has a highly perfumed bouquet with rose petals, red cherries, raspberry and incenses, beautifully defined and wonderfully controlled. The palate also conveys a sense of effortlessness that is utterly beguiling. Very harmonious, balletically-poised thanks to its fine bead of acidity, this Clos des Ducs unfurls in the glass with a lilting, very pure and almost balletic finish. Quite saline on the aftertaste such that it urges you back for another sip. Sophisticated (as usual) yet delicious.Inc. GSTSG$3,764.27 -

There is a spiciness here that becomes more pronounced towards the finish with white pepper and clove, leaving the mouth tingling long after this Fremiet has departed. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$1,443.60 -
