Combines the energy and precision of the '08 with the greater volume of the '09. This compellingly chewy, extract-rich wine, still a bit brooding and short of its peak, expands and builds inexorably on the aftertaste. Finishes with a pungent peppery suggestion that may be from the whole-cluster fermentation. Combines the energy and precision of the '08 with the greater volume of the '09. This compellingly chewy, extract-rich wine, still a bit brooding and short of its peak, expands and builds inexorably on the aftertaste. Piquant acidity and the menthol medicinal notes of classic young Clos Vougeot suggest that this will enjoy a slow and graceful evolution in the bottle. Finishes with a pungent peppery suggestion that may be from the whole-cluster fermentation. Good deep red with ruby highlights. Deep nose shows an almost roasted ripeness but also terrific lift to the aromas of black cherry, flowers, licorice, mint, wild herbs and orange peel. Like liquid velvet on entry, then highly concentrated but youthfully unforthcoming in the middle. Wonderfully silky and seamless and balanced from the start, this aristocratic Clos Vougeot is at once broad and light on its feet. Finishes extremely long and vibrant, with perfectly buffered tannins.
