Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-96)

From domaine fruit, picked on 26th August. 35% new wood from various forests. A deeper lemon yellow. Plenty of tension on the nose, with a breadth of apple fruit. A slight reductive quality before the oak takes over. A little youthful bitterness. I don’t find it showing at its best today but I suspect that there is more to this to emerge later. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)

Recently stirred so cloudy. Affects the bouquet too, so that is hard to judge. Unquestioned weight, plenty of energy, the lees with the wood shows more at the finish. No reason why this should not be an excellent wine. Another sample was produced, representing the component raised in foudre only, 10 barrels worth, so one third of the whole, has a clear pale lemon and lime colour. The fruit is clearly ripe but with no signs of exotic fruit. This fills the palate beautifully, a little citrus, enough white fruit flesh and then a long stony finish. Absolutely what it should be, and in 2022 something more. Drink from 2032-2040+. Tasted: October 2023.

Medium deep crimson. The nose is very forthcoming, quite Chambolle in style which is not always the case with Baudes. On the palate one can find a bit more of the wilder more structured aspect of the proximity to Morey. A mix of fresher and darker red fruit, some tannins to finish. Drink from 2030-2036. Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru showed more reduction on the nose compared to the Bonnes-Mares: brambly red fruit, Earl Grey, and light forest floor aromas blossom in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins, velvety smooth with maraschino cherries, marmalade and touches of fresh fig. This is quite exotic towards the finish. By direct comparison, the aforementioned Grand Cru has a little more composure and restraint and perhaps handled the warmth of the growing season better. Still, it's a lovely Amoureuses.

Vinous - Neal Martin (88-90)

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Village comes from several lieux-dits and includes more whole bunches than previous vintages - 60%. That does dominate the aromatics at the moment and covers some of the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It is lightly spiced, somehow just a little conservative towards the finish, where it needs to muster a little more complexity. But it will drink well for 8-10 years.

Burghound (90-93)

An overtly floral and markedly spicy nose is quite restrained if exceptionally pretty with its cool array of red and blue pinot fruit scents laced with hints of orange peel and herbal tea. Here too the middleweight flavors possess a lovely texture as well as a subtle minerality that adds a sense of lift to the well-delineated, balanced and dusty finish that is sneaky long. Lovely and very Chambolle in character.

Burghound (88-91)

(from Les Condemennes, Les Athets and Les Babillières). A more floral-suffused nose speaks mostly of spicy red and dark raspberry scents. The supple lighter weight flavors possess an attractive mouthfeel and evident minerality that adds a sense of lift to the youthfully austere and impressively long if mildly tangy finish.

A rich full purple with a plump and stylish fruit, some violets, a generous red fruit, light tannins in place, adequate acidity. Quite a different style of wine after tasting those of Domaine Robert Sirugue, and indeed Arnaud & Sophie. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted: December 2023.

90% is from the Pernand. Side, a third old vines, a third 20 year old, a third 35 year old. And guess what, the youngest are in the worst condition. Some tressed, some worked by winch. Pale colour, a beautifully mineral nose, properly shows its terroir. The wine picks up speed further back on the palate, opening out very nicely. Very attractive. Drink from 2029-2037. The fruit soars to the back of the palate, filling the mouth, a light but adequate acidity, and tannins which are well ripened. Then another surge of fruit to finish. Drink from 2029-2035.
