Bordeaux 2022 En Primeur - Left Bank
The Left Bank of Bordeaux is located on the west side of the Gironde River and is home to some of the region's most renowned wineries. The area's unique terroir, with gentle slopes and a wide variety of gravel, stones, sand, limestone, and clay soils, make it perfect for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux wine. Among the famous communes, Pauillac, St-Julien, and Margaux are home to prestigious estates like Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Haut-Brion, Châtea Léoville Las-Cases, Château Ducru Beaucaillou, and Château Palmer, among others. Many of these blue-chip wineries from the Left Bank are considered excellent names to keep in a long-term portfolio.

Decanter (97)Vibrant and intense colour in the glass, richly scented, floral and perfumed, open and inviting. Intense and concentrated, the fruit is dark and ripe but there’s no hint of over ripeness here and instead you get cool blue fruits, chalky tannins and minty freshness with accents of liquorice, coffee, tobacco, cedar spice and clove. Tannins are clearly at the fore, giving the structure and the frame while the juicy acidity gives the energy and life. Still on the serious side, not tense so much as there’s good persistence, it’s lean and streamlined, but refined in a spiced and mineral way. Gorgeous terroir markers, lovely detail and precision, you can feel they haven't worked too much or tried too hard. It carries the signature of the estate in the serious structure, it’s a big wine, there’s such power here but so well controlled and delivered. Razor sharp, focussed and persistent. A gorgeous 2022, well executed and will be a clear success. |

Beau-Site 2022 exemplifies the elegance and finesse characteristic of the esteemed Beau-Site estate, nestled in the heart of Bordeaux’s renowned Médoc region. Crafted from meticulously selected Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grapes harvested from sustainably managed vineyards, this vintage reflects the terroir's unique mineral richness and balanced acidity. Under the astute guidance of Master Vintner Jean Dupont, fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving the wine’s vibrant fruit profile before ageing gracefully for 18 months in French oak barrels. The result is a harmonious blend of dark berry flavours, subtle oak integration, and well-rounded tannins, offering a sophisticated palate that lingers gracefully. Beau-Site 2022 is a testament to the producer’s dedication to quality and tradition, making it a quintessential choice for discerning connoisseurs seeking a refined Bordeaux experience. |

Jeb Dunnuck (92)I loved the 2022 Château Beaumont, a richly textured, medium to full-bodied, concentrated 2022 that does everything right. Darker currants, smoky cherries, spicy wood, and leather-like notes all define the aromatics, and it's nicely balanced, with plenty of mid-palate depth and velvety tannins. Count me in as a fan. The 2022 is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot. |

Decanter (95)Juicy, forward, bright and vibrant this has a great energy straight away, crisp and tannic, but well integrated so you get almost a bouncy palate with flint edges giving minerality and acidity providing the lift. Feels detailed and precise, lovely definition to the overall frame and this carries to a long finish. Impressive, I like the strength and the focus and it doesn't feel overripe or too extracted. So much to like about this wine with subtle liquorice, mint and crushed stone aspects. This will be excellent. HVE3 certified. Ageing 12 months in 29% new oak barrels, 6 batches in amphora. Harvest 12 September - 1 October. Tasted twice. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97+)The 2022 Château Beychevelle comes from 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot that spent 18 months in barrel. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by an absolutely stunning nose of crème de cassis and plum fruit intermixed with leafy herbs, spring flowers, and crushed stone-like minerality. This full-bodied Beychevelle has a pure, elegant mouthfeel, finely polished tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. This is brilliant stuff that already offers pleasure today yet will cruise over the following two to three decades. It's the finest Beychevelle I've tasted. |
