Wine Advocate (96)The 2018 Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Auslese is perfectly clear and fresh but still intense and concentrated on the spicy and complex nose. Lush and piquant on the palate, this is a fresh, stunningly pure and playful Brücke that is singing and dancing on the knife's edge. Fabulous in its purity, tension and finesse. Nevertheless, there is the ripeness you can expect from an Auslese. Tasted in July 2019. |

Wine Advocate (97)Picked the same day as the GG and the Spätlese on November 8 but with finely shriveled botrytis berries, the 2021 Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Auslese offers a clear and finely lemony bouquet with very fine botrytis tones, even though botrytis was less widely spread here than in the Felsenberg. On the palate, this is a rich and intense yet very precise and filigreed, refined and pure Auslese with an enormously saline and lively, long and energetic finish that shows piquant acidity. Superb. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022. |

Vinous (95)The 2022 Riesling Oberhäuser Brücke Auslese is a rarity. The dry year was not one to favor botrytis. "It was not an Auslese year, but we always have the ambition to harvest a little Auslese in these two vineyards, namely Brücke and Hermannshöhle," Helmut says. They manage to pick fruit with a little botrytis, selected relatively early. The nose seems more toned down than the Spätlese, yet underneath are glimmers of passion fruit, with its lovely greenish, tart notion and tropical overtones. The palate has the same tropical sweetness, vivid, aromatic, alluring and seductive. It's concentrated rather than colored by botrytis. Very pure, linear, pristine and exquisite. This is an elixir-like liquid on tiptoe, pirouetting, trailing tropical perfume and finishing in citrus. This is about brightness, not weight. (Sweet) |

James Suckling (97)If you dream of the great German rieslings of the 1970s and 1980s, then this is a wine for you, even though it is riper and more concentrated than those icons of the past. James Suckling (98)What an expressive and exotic nose this remarkable Spatlese has, but that’s really the least of it. The giant energy and mineral freshness are like a whale rising from the depths and blowing water out if its spout. Experience the tantalising richness of the Donnhoff Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Spatlese R 2018. Immaculately crafted in Germany by celebrated producer, Helmut Dönnhoff, this Riesling is an exquisite exemplification of the terroir found in Nahe's Schlossböckelheimer Felsenberg vineyard. Harmonising naturally high acidity with an impeccable late-harvest ripeness, the Spätlese showcases an outstanding purity of fruit. Evoking vivid notes of apricot, lime, and floral honey, the wine exhibits a sensational balance, while the mineral-inflected finish beautifully mirrors the volcanic soils of the Felsenberg site. Unquestionable longevity ensures fans of Dönnhoff's creations can relish the bottle's evolution over the forthcoming decade. Expertly judged sweetness, coupled with a poised, silken mouthfeel further bolsters its cool-climate provenance. Embrace the Donnhoff Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Spatlese R 2018, as it truly captures the splendid art of winemaking in each glass. |

Vinous (98)The 2017 Dow’s Vintage Port showed a slight reduction and required more time to really open in the glass. Typical of Dow’s it has a more backward and introspective bouquet compared to its peers, scents of blackberry, clove, wild mint, cassis and vanilla, gradually gaining more intensity with aeration. The palate is simply glorious. It is built around a compelling tannic frame that seems finer than any Dow’s I have encountered apart from the ethereal 2011. There is so much energy coiled up in this Port, a sense of symmetry that is enthralling and yet you just know that it needs to be cellared for 15-20 years for it to reveal its full potential. For serious Port-lovers. One of the vintages most cerebral offerings. Total production is 5,250 cases. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2019 Erdener Treppchen Riesling GG Alte Reben comes from two very old plots adjacent the Prälat (the upper part of the former original Treppchen and the lower Herzlay) that have never been replanted since long before World War I. It shows a clear, intense yet subtle and deep, highly complex but also refined bouquet of very fine red slate and herbal aromas as well as perfectly clear and elegant Riesling fruits. Silky textured, highly finessed and perfectly balanced on the palate, this is a very intense and juicy, enormously long and concentrated yet finessed and mouthwatering Treppchen with the crystalline grip of broken slate and the intensity and complexity of biblical vines in a great terroir. The 2019 Treppchen is arguably the finest dry wine I have ever tasted from Ernie Loosen. Highly recommended. Tasted at the domain in September 2020. |
