  • La Janasse Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2016 (6x150cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (94-96)

Incorporating 10% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre, the Grenache-dominated 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (there's a touch of Cinsault) sports a saturated ruby/purple color. It shows hints of new oak in its black raspberries, blackberry, cured meats, crushed violets and spice-driven aromatics. This gives way to a rich, incredibly concentrated base cuvée that could easily be mistaken for the Vieille Vignes from another good year. Polished, concentrated and young, it's going to need bottle age.

I was able to taste the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Chaupin on two occasions, rating it one point higher on one of those as well. Incredible notes of red and black fruits, violets, scorched earth, ground pepper, and Provençal garrigue notes define the nose, and it’s a darker, richer, slightly more powerful wine than usual, while still showing the inherent elegance and finesse this cuvée always shows. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following 15-20. Don’t miss it!

  • Nalys Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2018 (6x150cl)

The Nalys Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2018 stands as an epitome of the renowned Vin-gastronomie of Southern Rhône. Masterfully crafted by Château de Nalys, it brilliantly captures the nuances of a combination of 13 noble grape varieties, each cultivated in three distinct terroirs of the Nalys estate. The maturation process included 12 months in French oak foudres, enhancing its complexity and depth. The result showcases a striking, rubescent-hued wine, imbued with layers of ripe black cherries, rich dark chocolate, and sun-drenched Provençal herbs. An irresistible hint of black truffle provides the finishing touch, indicative of this celebrated region. As the first vintage released under the Guigal family's management, a guarantee of quality and authenticity, the Nalys Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2018 is an oenophile’s delight. Its considerable structure and enduring finish make it a perfect companion to well-seasoned, robust cuisines. A truly fine example of the fusion of time-honoured production and modern winemaking brilliance.

  • Pierre Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape Mon Aieul 2016 (6x150cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (100)

Getting more than one exclamation in the notes, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de Mon Aïeul is a deep, rich yet vibrant red that offers a kaleidoscope of kirsch liqueur, garrigue, crushed flowers, Asian spices, and cured meats. It's more opulent and sexier than the 2010, fresher and purer than the 2007, has deep, full-bodied aromas and flavors, and a huge finish. It's a sensational, heavenly Châteauneuf-du-Pape that tops out my scale. This cuvée is 100% Grenache that was not destemmed and was aged in 20% demi-muids and the balance in concrete tanks.

  • Rene Rostaing Cote-Rotie La Landonne 2013 (6x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

About as voluptuous and sexy a la Landonne as I've tasted from Rene, the 2013 Cote Rotie la Landonne excels in the vintage and offers rock star notes of violets, black and blue fruits, olive and pepper. Full-bodied, layered, beautifully concentrated and with ripe tannin, it needs 4-5 years of cellaring and will keep for two decades or more.

  • Saint Cosme Cotes-du-Rhone 2018 (6x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (90)

The 2018 Cotes du Rhone is 100% Syrah, sourced from the Gard (on the right bank of the Rhône) and Vinsobres (left bank, higher elevation). Violets, black olives and cassis and blueberry flavors provide terrific varietal expression in a medium to full-bodied package framed by silky tannins. Depending on your local pricing (I've seen it for as little as $12.99 or as much as $20), it should be a terrific value.

  • Tardieu Laurent Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Speciale 2017 (6x150cl)

    Vinous (93-94)

Deep bright-rimmed violet. Deep-pitched red berry preserve, candied licorice and exotic spice aromas are lifted by a smoky mineral note that gains strength as the wine opens up. Broad and fleshy in the mouth, offering bitter cherry, black raspberry and fruitcake flavors and a touch of spicy white pepper. In a distinctly ample style but not at all lacking for energy. The impressively long, gently tannic finish shows no rough edges and leaves a sappy cherry liqueur note behind.
