I was able to taste two 2019s. Looking first at the 2019 Saint-Péray Roussanne, it has a tight, reductive, mineral-laced bouquet of quince, grilled peach, white flowers, and crushed stone. Gorgeous on the palate as well, it's full-bodied, has a round, layered textured, perfect balance, and one heck of a great finish. It reminds me of a great vintage of Château Beaucastel's Vieille Vignes Blanc.

A floral quality appears on the seamless finish, which shows a hint of smokiness and excellent persistence. This wine was raised in a 75/25 combination of unlined 500-liter amphoras and neutral demi-muids.

Lastly, the 2019 Condrieu Coteau De Vernon comes from a steep, southeast-facing hillside of granite soils and is brought up a mix of 15% new barrels and foudres. The foudres were introduced in 2012 and I think contribute to slightly more tension and vibrancy in the wines. Peach, crushed citrus, spicy wood, and crushed stone notes all define the nose, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, wonderful overall balance, integrated acidity, and one hell of a great finish. A reference point Condrieu if there ever was one, it will benefit from a year or two in bottle then have a gradual evolution over the following decade. These can unquestionably age for decades, in fact. Nevertheless, I prefer them from a year or two after the vintage and over the following 4-5 years.

Wine Advocate (95)

Showing a “more classic style of Château Grillet,” according to estate manager Alessandro Nori, the 2014 Chateau Grillet is fresher and more linear than the intense 2015. The fruit is more pineapple and citrus than apricot and melon, and it finishes long, cool and invigorating. This medium to full-bodied wine should drink well for close to a decade.
