Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

Vinous (86-88)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a simple redcurrant and cranberry scented bouquet that just needs a little more flesh. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins. This does not really have the roundness of a Chambolle and just feels abrupt on the finish. Maybe just enduring a difficult phase? |

Burghound (91-93)Here the wood treatment is notably more discreet if not completely imperceptible as it allows the spice mélange of red and black pinot fruit, plum, earth and sandalwood hints to be easily appreciated. There is fine volume and density to the velvety, mouth coating and seductively textured flavors that possess so much dry extract on the balanced finish that this could easily be enjoyed now though note well that there is plenty of development potential. This is really quite good. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90)The 2021 Pommard Les Pezerolles 1er Cru offers light red fruit, used tea leaves and undergrowth on the nose that gradually unfolds in the glass. Fine delineation, though not powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins, more black fruit here with tar and graphite notes. A little more worked in the winery and as such it is missing just a touch of noblesse and precision on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |

Burghound (92-94)This too is carrying noticeable toast on the otherwise highly spicy and pure black and blue pinot fruit aromas that also display notes of warm earth, leather and exotic tea. The mouth coating flavors are structured and muscular, offering serious size and weight yet there is nothing ponderous here as the balance is impeccable and this too is built to age. |

Wine Advocate (97)Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Richebourg Grand Cru from A.F. Gros has a very fine bouquet, very expressive with vibrant, shimmering red berry fruit, cherry liqueur, boysenberries and marmalade. This is both complex and involving. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, beautifully poised and supple, elegant and utterly harmonious on the finish. The terroir and winemaking here exude Grand Cru quality. It's probably the best wine I have ever tasted from the estate and in a different league to some older vintages that I tasted from the domaine just a few days later. |

Vinous (95)The 2013 Richebourg Grand Cru is a wonderful wine. Here it has a superb, quite aristocratic bouquet with wild strawberry, crushed stone, clove and just a subtle marine tincture. It just seems to grow in stature. The palate is extremely well balanced with firm backbone, great density with a muscular, quite grippy finish. It just gives you everything you want from a Richebourg. Tasted at Goedhuis & Co.'s annual Burgundy tasting in London. |

Wine Advocate (92-94)The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru clearly has the best bouquet amongst the A.F. Gros range: wonderful, minerally red berry fruit, dried flowers and just a hint of warm gravel in the background. It gains intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin. The acidity is very well judged and there is a creamy texture lending harmony to this Richebourg. I do think it is the most complex Richebourg I have tasted from the domaine in recent years, but it is one of the most sensual. Give it 8-10 years in bottle so that it can show what it can do. |

Jancis Robinson (18++)More muscular and meaty than the Échezeaux. Darker fruits, sweet cherry depth. Redolent and yet controlled in fruit. Fleshy cherries and plums, a slight hint of integrated toast and nutmeg from oak. Despite the power the sensation is ethereal and lifted. Very fine. |
