The 2012 Morey Saint Denis La Riotte is simply fabulous. Endowed with stunning energy and precision, the 2012 shows off layers of black fruit, crushed rocks, violets and baking spices, all supported by veins of underlying tension and saline minerality. The 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has opened up a little since I last tasted it, offering crushed strawberry and Morello scents, crushed stone and a touch of tomato leaf. This is so fresh and open that you are tempted to drink it now. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, a silver bead of acidity and much greater precision than previous vintages.
