Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs Perrières Vieilles Vignes has quite a voluminous bouquet of precocious dark cherries, bergamot and floral scents, certainly one of the more expressive of Guillaume Tardy’s 2018s at this early juncture. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and rounded in style, presenting tobacco-tinged red fruit toward the smooth and quite persistent finish. There is a dash of black pepper on the aftertaste. Very fine.Inc. GSTSG$762.43 -

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs Perrières Vieilles Vignes, which suffered minor hail damage (10%), is one of Tardy's more fruit intense crus with black cherries and white-tipped strawberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, taut and quite citrus-fresh and tensile on the finish with admirable length. Mid crimson in colour with a fine savoury strawberry fruit, very Gevrey. A solid quite rich mouthful of fruit, with a softer strawberry fruit at the finish, and some tannins which do not intrude to far. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2024.Expected Price RangeSG$0 - SG$0 -

Medium red. Reticent scents of redcurrant and leather come across as a bit more rustic than the Champerrier. Offers good texture and breadth if a bit less floral lift in the middle palate than the Champerrier. But some saline minerality gives the wine adequate energy. Finishes with dusty tannins. Probably best for drinking over the next ten years.Inc. GSTSG$1,080.69 -

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru has a lovely, vivacious and generous bouquet of dark cherries, violet, hints of meat juices and brown spices. The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru, matured in 50% new oak, has greater intensity on the nose compared to the Champs Perrières, and the fruit profile is a notch darker. The palate is medium-bodied with a grippy, masculine entry. Broody and backward, this is a Nuits Saint-Georges that will benefit from cellaring. Very saline on the marine-tinged finish. Plenty of character and class here. One for the long term.Inc. GSTSG$1,339.02 -

Vivacious mid ruby, with a greater density of fruit on the nose, mainly raspberry, at just the right degree of ripeness. As always, this is the most complete of the Tardy village wines with both muscle and finesse, and the longest finish. Moderately saturated dark red. A bit lower-pitched than the Chambolle, with liqueur-like berry aromas complicated by mocha and earth notes. Ripe, plush and sweet, conveying more weight and texture but less energy and definition than the Chambolle, with its red and darker berry flavors complemented by suggestion of coffee. Boasts good material but could use a bit more nuance and grip. The present but initially very supple tannins turn dustier with air. This wine is the lowest in acidity of the 2015s I tasted chez Tardy, at 3.5 grams per liter; most of the other '15s are around 3.8, with the Echézeaux at 3.9.Inc. GSTSG$166.66 -

The 2018 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from the six rows owned by the domaine that usually yield two barrels, raised this year in a single 456-liter barrel that the Bachelets have been employing since the 2017 vintage, as they find it imparts greater purity than the single-barrel size. This has a very precise bouquet, taut and focused with scents of orange blossom and pressed yellow flowers; great intensity here. The palate is very intense, the oak nicely integrated and displaying a keen line of acidity. The oak turns a little more dominant toward the finish, as you would expect, though it is in proportion to the fruit and there is a lovely nuttiness/smokiness conveyed by the persistent finish. Yes, this is quite Meursault-like in style, but undeniably there is impressive precision and energy coiled up on persistent finish. This is a superb Bienvenue, one of the best that I tried from this Grand Cru. Just one 456-liter barrel produced. In BondSG$1,665.00 -

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles is showing especially well this year, offering up aromas of pear, lime, white flowers, toasted nuts, fresh mint and warm bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's seamless and complete, with excellent depth at the core and a saline finish. In BondSG$933.00 -

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Aubues is terrific, unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, white flowers, hazelnuts, freshly baked bread and matchstick. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and suave, it's layered and concentrated, with a dense core of fruit, racy acids and a long, mineral finish. As readers may remember, this derives from an optimally situated enclave within Les Enceignères. In BondSG$194.00 -
