Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

Bright, deep red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry and exotic flowers; not at all cooked. Dense, sweet and extremely rich; this, too, really mounts on the back half spreads out to saturate the entire palate. The black fruit flavors seem quite young for the vintage. Here's a 2003 that needs time in the bottle.Inc. GSTSG$2,505.81 -

The 2009 Ruchottes-Chambertin was 100% de-stemmed. It has a gorgeous bouquet with vivid scents of plush red cherry fruit, cassis, violets and a hint of vanilla remaining from some new oak to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with an elegant, precise opening. It is embroidered with a perfect thread of acidity and gains momentum towards the finish that feels plush and sensual (not a million miles away from the 1999 stylistically). It needs three or four more years in bottle but there is great potential here. Tasted at the Ruchottes-Chambertin vertical in London.Inc. GSTSG$2,320.51 -

The 2010 Ruchottes-Chambertin is pure silk on the palate. Freshly cut roses, raspberries, mint and crushed rocks are some of the nuances that take shape in the glass. In 2010, the Ruchottes is rich, yet weightless, in the way only Burgundy can be. All the elements are beautifully woven together in this totally gracious, striking wine. This parcel is over 60 years old. The Mugneret sisters aren't in favor of using the Vieilles Vignes designation for the wines, as that term has no formal definition. The old vines go into Ruchottes, the young vines into the 1er Cru.Inc. GSTSG$2,674.76 -

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Despite some reduction, there is clearly plenty of attractive ripe red berry fruit on the nose of Mugneret-Gibourg’s Ruchottes-Chambertin 2011: cranberry, wild strawberry and touches of blueberry. The palate is less masculine and reserved compared to when I tasted it at the domaine at the end of 2013. Here it feels more velvety on the entry. It has a cashmere texture with well-judged acidity and superb structure. The fruit is darker than Christophe Roumier's Ruchottes, but there is very good weight and persistence on the finish that bodes well for the future.Inc. GSTSG$1,656.69 -

Bright medium red. Redcurrant, flowers, spices, orange zest and white pepper on the scented nose. Not a fleshy style but juicy and nicely delineated, with the orange note providing inner-palate lift. Still tight but finishes with nice subtle length. The energy of this excellent village wine really wakes up the palate. Marie-Christine Mugneret noted that the estate's 2008s began with very high levels of malic acidity and finished with very low pHs in the 3.25 to 3.33 range. The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Village has a detailed bouquet with lifted blackberry and wild strawberry scents, demonstrating fine mineralité for a village cru and it opens beautifully in the glass. (1x75cl) 2009Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91)
Bright medium red. Knockout nose combines sexy redcurrant, blackberry, flowers and perfumed gingery lift. Smooth, suave and lively, with mineral and floral elements lifting the seamless middle palate. Very generous, long village wine with a remarkably light touch for the vintage. This seems firmer in bottle than it was in barrel a year ago.In BondSG$534.00 -
(9x75cl) 2010Vinous (91+)
Bright medium red. Sexy, very pure aromas of raspberry, flowers and spices, lifted by a whiff of citrus peel. Sweet, spicy and very intense; really saturates the palate with savory, vibrant berry, floral and mineral flavors. This textbook village offering finishes with terrific persistence. In BondSG$5,495.00 -

The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Village has a detailed bouquet with lifted blackberry and wild strawberry scents, demonstrating fine mineralité for a village cru and it opens beautifully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin. Maybe it is a little pinched compared to the Chambolle-Musigny as it does not have the same depth on the finish, but it is brimming of freshness. A little ingénue! Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting. In BondSG$450.00 -
(1x75cl) 2012Vinous (90)
Bright, moderately saturated red. Scented, inviting aromas of red raspberry, flowers and spices. Concentrated, suave and sweet; in a plumper style than the young 2013 and a bit less vibrant but quite long on the aftertaste. This will need at least a few years to absorb some of its building tannins. In BondSG$486.00 -

From vines just behind the maison towards the Route Nationale, the 2013 Vosne Romanée has a precise bouquet, dark berries and a touch of black tea, fine delineation here and poise. The palate is medium-bodied and displays good weight in the mouth. It does not quite have the complexity of the 2012 on the finish, but still, this will be a delicious Vosne-Romanée.In BondSG$5,105.00
