Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from the Pernot family, from vines situated on the Pernand side. Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Derrière La Grange 1er Cru includes 40% whole bunch this year. It has the most vivacious and forward of the domaine’s cuvées, offering ebullient blackberry, raspberry, wild fennel and a hint of oyster shell. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Quite suave and very harmonious in texture, though it would benefit from more depth and grip toward the finish (perhaps a little more maceration might have helped). Still, this is a finely crafted, elegant Chambolle-Musigny.In BondSG$1,460.00 -

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Derrière La Grange 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet, the 30% whole bunch nicely integrated, ditto the 40% new oak. This just sings from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins and candied red fruit laced with white pepper and curry leaf, leading to a cohesive, slightly ferrous finish. This will be fascinating to revisit in bottle. In BondSG$1,285.00 -

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Derrière La Grange 1er Cru has a vibrant, quite peppery bouquet thanks to the whole bunch addition, well defined with freshly-tilled loam filtering through the black and red fruit. The palate is well defined with succulent tannins, slightly confit-like with figgy notes on the finish. In BondSG$1,175.00 -

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru uses 15% whole bunch from the 25-year-old vines (the rest are 10 years old). It has a fragrant, elegant bouquet of blackberry, briar, sage and subtle oxtail aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, very fine tannins, and here the Les Amoureuses character really shines. Veins of blue fruit and spices burst through on the finish. There is an appealing crescendo to this wine and it should age with style and panache. In BondSG$4,690.00 -

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is blended with 57% whole bunch (one-third of this vineyard has just been replanted). It has a lovely bouquet of black cherries, cherry liqueur, black pepper and just a touch of balsamic. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a little more austere than other Les Amoureuses that I have tasted, but leading to a precise finish. In BondSG$1,305.00 -
(6x75cl) 2013Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2013 Chambolle Musigny les Charmes comes through three plots just under les Fuesselots that make 1.3 hectares. It has a slightly more reserved, masculine bouquet compared to les Plantes at the moment, but there is still fine focus and delineation in situ. The palate is supple in the mouth, leaning more here to the red side of the fruit spectrum with cranberry and pomegranate, structured on the finish with an attractive grainy texture. Outstanding! In BondSG$985.00 -

(10% vendange entier): Bright medium red. Fruitier on the nose but less complex than the Plantes, offering scents of cherry, raspberry and olive. Offers lovely sweetness and depth, as well as captivating inner-mouth perfume, but a bit less refined and smooth in the early going than the Plantes. Today this nicely balanced, energetic wine's tannins are a bit pronounced but the finish shows excellent juicy length. (Incidentally, Prune Amiot noted that this wine's tannins are often suaver than those of the Plantes but added that these wines change every day.In BondSG$1,910.00 -

30% whole bunch. Ripe purple black. There is both weight and class here and it does not appear to have got too ripe which is a fear for early ripening vineyards like Charmes 2018. Actually this is delicious with a very attractive fruit weight, some tannins behind. Overall this is nicely in balance. In BondSG$1,023.00
