Mâcon-Verzé is a blend of multiple plots in the Mâconnais either entirely owned by the family of managed by impeccably trusted select growers. Subjected to the same incredibly strict selection criteria and then vinified with the same care as the (singular) Domaine Leflaive’s Grands and 1er Crus, Mâcon-Verzé is aged for 12 months in 25% new wood before it is transferred to stainless steel vats to clarify naturally.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (86)Made from 10 plots covering 13 ha, vinified and aged in a mix of stainless steel, concrete, demi-muids and foudres for one year, then all is blended in tank before bottling in January. A fairly full yellow in colour with some sunshine alongside the definite reductive character. The bouquet grows in richness, with ripe apple notes. A juicy quality of fruit, even a little bit buttery, salted butter for sure. 13.2% alcohol. |

Vinous (89)The 2022 Mâcon-Verzé is raised in stainless steel, concrete and foudres, around 10% wood for micro-oxygenation. It is bottled early in the year after the harvest. The nose offers a clean, precise, malic bouquet with orchard fruit emerging with time. The palate is taut, fresh and lightly spiced, with fine weight and ample depth on the finish. Enjoy this Mâcon-Verzé over the next 3 to 5 years. |

Vinous (90)The 2020 Meursault Sous Le Dos d'Ane offers traces of orchard fruit, hints of linseed and hazelnut, nicely focused and gains intensity in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a slightly tangy entry, hints of orange rind and fresh pear and moderate depth with a tensile and slightly pithy finish. |

Wine Advocate (92+)The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane exhibits aromas of pear, white flowers, freshly baked bread and stuck match, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and racy palate that's pure and precise, concluding with a chalky finish. As readers may remember, this parcel, formerly planted to red, abuts Pierre Morey's Meursault Perrières, and the soils are very stony. |

Burghound (91)(Outstanding Top Value) A markedly more floral-suffused nose reflects notes of lemon zest, spice and the essence of pear. There is fine volume and intensity to the generous yet beautifully defined medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent length on the very dry but not really austere finale. Note that this fine effort is sufficiently compact to repay 5 to 8 years of keeping. |

Wine Spectator (93)Great purity, allowing the vineyard to shine through. Suggests apple, fig and citrus aromas and flavors, but is really about mineral, energy and fine balance. Everything is in the right proportion, and it glides to a long, detailed aftertaste. Drink now through 2015. 648 cases imported. -BS |
