The 1999 Meursault Perrières 1er Cru from Jean-Marc Roulot is poured from magnum. Silvery in hue and showing little age, it has a precise, Puligny-like bouquet with subtle scents of dandelion and wet stone. The terroir really shines through here. The palate is very saline on the entry that gets the taste-buds flowing, just a hint of crème brûlée and lemon peel furnishing the clean and precise finish. I suspect that the larger format here renders this a little more youthful than in bottle, but it is still an outstanding Meursault from Roulot, one that has many years ahead. The 2009 Meursault Perrieres is a mode of coolness. It possesses tons of energy in Reserve. With time in the glass hints of slate, crushed rocks, lime and white flowers start to take shape, suggesting the direction this profound wine is headed in over the coming years. The Perrieres is simply breathtaking for its clarity and precision. Like a finely cut diamond, there is always something new to discover. The finish is beyond eternal. This is not an immediate wine, but rather a bottle that will handsomely repay patience. I hope to have a chance to revisit this in a few years’ time, as it is nothing short of utterly profound. The 2010 Meursault Perrières wraps around the palate with huge, seamless layers of fruit. It boasts stunning textural depth and pure richness from start to finish. There is so much sheer intensity of the fruit that the minerality appears virtually hidden. Although the density of the fruit is impressive, this isn't a particularly elegant or refined Perrières by Roulot standards, at least not today. Roulot explains that the Perrières was the last of his wines to finish its malolactic fermentation. In my view it is a bit heavy, although the truth is that most growers would kill to have a wine like this in their cellars.Inc. GSTSG$2,254.75 -

Roulot's 2011 Meursault Perrières is a wine of pure structure at this stage. Oyster shells, lime, slate and white flowers all take shape in a powerful, intense broad-shouldered wine. As the best examples of Perrieres always do, this just oozes class, minerality, sophistication and refinement. Powerful and explosive aromas burst from the glass yet there is nothing heavy or forced and the flavors display awesome intensity as this just etches itself into the palate and stains it as well. The length was so good that I could taste this the next morning and the complexity is literally stunning. Another genuinely great Roulot Perrieres. In BondSG$9,760.00 -

Bright pale yellow. Soft citrus fruits and crushed rock on the musky, slightly reduced nose. Rich, perfumed and tightly coiled, with a terrific core of acidity intensifying the orange, floral and mineral flavors. Offers compelling cut and concentration but this infant will require several years of aging. Wonderfully refined Perrieres of grand cru class. In BondSG$2,880.00 -

Anticipated maturity: 2015+.In BondSG$1,790.00 -

In my view it is a bit heavy, although the truth is that most growers would kill to have a wine like this in their cellars. In BondSG$2,060.00 -

Roulot's 2011 Meursault Perrières is a wine of pure structure at this stage. Oyster shells, lime, slate and white flowers all take shape in a powerful, intense broad-shouldered wine. Today the 2011 is incredibly raw and unformed, but it should be absolutely majestic in a few years, once all the elements come together a little more fully in bottle. The finish alone is haunting in its beauty. In BondSG$5,965.00 -

Pale, bright lemon-yellow. Lemon candy and wet stone on the youthfully discreet nose. Then tactile, dusty and sharply delineated on the palate, and more dominated by minerality in the early going than the Charmes. Suave, juicy wine with a powerful impression of energy. The classy finish coats the palate, spreading out horizontally and building. Lovely wine, but give it at least five years to expand in the bottle. In BondSG$2,305.00 -

Bright, bright yellow. Subtle aromas of orange oil, honey and vanillin oak. At once sweet, silky and energetic, with intense yellow fruit, saline and honey flavors supported by a strong mineral underpinning. Finishes with palate-saturating minerality and terrific length. Roulot told me that he used a new Damy barrel with a different toast and that it resulted in a rounder wine.In BondSG$5,425.00 -

The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières looks set to rank as one of Jean-Marc Roulot's all-time greats, and while it is still youthful, its incredible potential is already clear to see. A classic bouquet of citrus zest, white flowers, chalky soil tones and blanched almond introduce a searingly intense wine that marries striking cut and vertical tension with wonderful glossy amplitude and dimension, its tongue-tingling minerality persisting through the long, penetrating finish. A benchmark example of Roulot's singular style. In BondSG$11,065.00
