(3x75cl) 2013Vinous (92+)
Pale yellow. Mineral, menthol and pear drop aromas show a slight medicinal aspect. The sweet pear drop character carries through onto the hugely concentrated palate, where sound acidity and a phenolic edge give the wine a rather muscular impression. But this extremely unevolved Batard needs time. All of this wine finished its malo.Inc. GSTSG$5,961.97 -

Pierre-Yves Colin's greatest wine this year is the 2017 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, which hails from a parcel of 90-year-old vines planted on the Chassagne side that he farms but doesn't own. Unfurling in the glass with complex aromas of Meyer lemon, nutmeg, honeycomb, dried white flowers, pastry cream and subtle new wood, it's full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a layered, broad-shouldered mid-palate, excellent concentration and a long, vibrant finish.Inc. (3x75cl) 2022Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-99)
5 Star Wine. Ex Jean-Marc Morey, father-in-law. Pale lemon yellow. There are some honeysuckle notes but just a fringe around the massive bank of white fruit. Far less primary than Caroline Morey’s Criots, but with spectacular potential. That little touch of riper fruit remains with it but the quintessential austerity of the vineyard will carry the day. Ripe limes too at the back. Very persistent indeed.Inc. GSTSG$6,784.92 -

Produced largely from second-generation grapes, the 2016 Bourgogne Chardonnay is a nice wine in a challenging vintage, but it's an appreciable step behind other recent vintages. The wine offers up fragrant aromas of peach, citrus pith and struck match, followed by a bright, light to medium-bodied palate with moderate texture and tangy acids. Right now, it's a little angular, but I expect it to round out in bottle.Inc. GSTSG$286.94 -

The 2017 Bourgogne Chardonnay offers up pretty aromas of green apples, citrus oil, lime cordial, white flowers and a subtle touch of wheat toast. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with an elegantly textural attack, racy acids and a certain sweetness of fruit that lends this Bourgogne upfront charm.Inc. GSTSG$813.69 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (86-87)
A mix of domaine and purchased fruit. Tasted after Caroline Morey’s wines, the extra depth of colour stood out. Plumper but not quite dense even so, some lemon notes, a little youthful bitterness, good length, soundly made. Tasted: October 2021Inc. GSTSG$232.44 -
Vinous (87-89)
The 2021 Bourgogne Blanc comes from three vineyards in Puligny, Chassagne and Saint-Aubin. This is quite elegant on the nose, understated even with Granny Smiths and a hint of white peach. The palate is well balanced with a lovely texture, impressive weight for a regional white and with welcome "bite" on the finish. Enjoy over several years.Inc. GSTSG$187.75 -

A blend of all Pierre-Yves's premiers crus, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru is chiseled and concentrated, revealing aromas of pear, freshly baked bread, buttery pastry, mint and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a long, chalky finish, it will really benefit from further élevage.Inc. GSTSG$828.20 -

Jancis Robinson (16.5++)
Very high, next to the forest. Ripens about a week later than Les Chenevottes. ‘The Morgeot of altitude – power and finesse.’ Almost like a St-Aubin. ‘If you pick it too early it can be a bit skinny.’ He has started to pick it a bit later. Pierre-Yves says it needs hot years – like 2019? Barrel sample. Savoury nose and more restrained than Chenevottes on the nose. Still lots of rather aggressive acidity. Needs quite a bit of time.Inc. Vinous (88-90)
(just one 350-liter barrel made, vs. a normal six): Pale bright yellow. Pungent scents of fresh herbs, white pepper, chlorophyll, anise and fennel. Nicely dense and intense but tightly wound, with its citrus and nectarine flavors conveying an impression of strong dry extract. Firmly structured and a bit youthfully aggressive. The savory, slightly bitter, palate-dusting finish is slightly hard-edged today, partly owing to the carbonic gas. Will this wine soften during its remaining months of élevage?Inc. GSTSG$1,037.85 -

A terrific effort, the 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ancegnières unwinds in the glass with aromas of pear, freshly baked bread, orange oil and toasted nuts. (1x75cl) 2015Vinous (96)
Pale, bright yellow. Pure, backward nose is more precise and higher pitched than the Bâtard, offering scents of tangerine zest, crushed rock and silex minerality. Boasts an uncommon combination of thickness with verve. Not heavy but incredibly opulent in the mouth, with its citrus and fresh herb flavors supported by bracing minerality. A wonderfully intense, seamless wine of terroir, and a step above the other 2015s I tasted at this address. Really superb palate-staining length.Inc. GSTSG$2,287.81 -
(1x75cl) 2016Vinous (93+)
Compellingly pure aromas and flavors of white nectarine, peach, lime pith, fresh herbs and pine resin. Powerful, classic Corton-Charlemagne with outstanding density, but extremely bound-up in the early going. This chewy, savory wine shows no easy sweetness but it's not dry either. The slowly mounting, vibrant finish displays deep saline minerality. This should age beautifully and may well ultimately merit an even higher rating.Inc. GSTSG$1,052.84 -
