Mâcon-Verzé is a blend of multiple plots in the Mâconnais either entirely owned by the family of managed by impeccably trusted select growers. Subjected to the same incredibly strict selection criteria and then vinified with the same care as the (singular) Domaine Leflaive’s Grands and 1er Crus, Mâcon-Verzé is aged for 12 months in 25% new wood before it is transferred to stainless steel vats to clarify naturally.Inc. Made from 10 plots covering 13 ha, vinified and aged in a mix of stainless steel, concrete, demi-muids and foudres for one year, then all is blended in tank before bottling in January. A fairly full yellow in colour with some sunshine alongside the definite reductive character. The bouquet grows in richness, with ripe apple notes. A juicy quality of fruit, even a little bit buttery, salted butter for sure. 13.2% alcohol.Inc. GSTSG$765.70 -

Pale yellow. Expressive nose offers ripe peach and an exotic soft citrus quality. Silky, dry and rich, with a distinctly honeyed ripeness. The juicy finish is buttressed by dusty minerality but this broad wine could nonetheless use a bit more mid-palate cut. These vines were planted in 1995 and 2004.Inc. GSTSG$922.03 -

Musky, very ripe but subdued aromas of apricot, mirabelle, spices and marzipan. Full, ripe and sweet, but with strong balancing orange-juice acidity. A rather powerful but youthfully disjointed village wine with a firm, dry finish.Inc. GSTSG$3,773.01 -

The 2018 Meursault Sur le Dos de l’Ane has a very intense bouquet that is actually quite Puligny-like in style. The palate is well balanced with a saline tang on the entry, modest depth and a spicy, energetic finish. Fine.Inc. GSTSG$984.07 -

The 2019 Meursault Sous le Dos l’Ane 1er Cru has a very Puligny-like bouquet, well defined, quite poised with traces of yellow plum and apricot, very pretty. The palate is quite edgy on the opening. There is a small reduction at play here, but fine weight and concentration with a tensile, stem ginger-tinged finish that is very satisfying. Maybe not long-term, but utterly delicious. The 2020 Meursault Sous Le Dos d'Ane offers traces of orchard fruit, hints of linseed and hazelnut, nicely focused and gains intensity in the glass. Wine Advocate (92+)
The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane exhibits aromas of pear, white flowers, freshly baked bread and stuck match, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and racy palate that's pure and precise, concluding with a chalky finish. As readers may remember, this parcel, formerly planted to red, abuts Pierre Morey's Meursault Perrières, and the soils are very stony.Inc. GSTSG$2,891.20 -

(tasted from a single 350-liter barrel) Cool nose hints at iodine and mint. The brilliantly delineated palate offers superb fruity cut and power supported by strong minerality and complicated by a toasty nuance. Almost painfully intense today; not a thick wine but finishes with outstanding building persistence and lovely ripe acidity. This fruit came in with five grams per liter of malic acidity, but there's nothing hard about it.Inc. GSTSG$21,451.09 -

(Outstanding Top Value) A markedly more floral-suffused nose reflects notes of lemon zest, spice and the essence of pear. There is fine volume and intensity to the generous yet beautifully defined medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent length on the very dry but not really austere finale. Note that this fine effort is sufficiently compact to repay 5 to 8 years of keeping.Inc. GSTSG$946.56 -

Great purity, allowing the vineyard to shine through. Suggests apple, fig and citrus aromas and flavors, but is really about mineral, energy and fine balance. Everything is in the right proportion, and it glides to a long, detailed aftertaste. Drink now through 2015. 648 cases imported. -BSInc. GSTSG$9,049.09 -

This wine hums with energy, with the tight, floral perfume of chardonnay grown in Puligny, a focus on lime and orange blossoms, an astonishing integration of oak and mineral tension with the fruit. It feels buoyant, a rich beauty that keeps improving over the course of several days. Along with the freshness of the fruit, there's a sense of cool limestone radiating the warmth of the sun. The domaine owns an 11.84-acre parcel of Clavoillon, with vines dating to 1959.Inc. GSTSG$669.16 -

The 2013 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon, which was bottled in June, has a well defined bouquet with flint and light smoky scents with just a hint of quince coming through with aeration. The palate is nicely poised with good weight on the entry, a touch of light honey and mandarin, poised if not persistent on the finish. I would afford this a couple of years in the cellar.Inc. GSTSG$3,974.66 -
(6x75cl) 2017Wine Advocate (91-93)
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon is excellent, and a clear step up over the Puligny Village, something that can't be taken for granted. Offering up aromas of lemon, beeswax, white flowers and blanched almonds, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and nicely concentrated, with tangy acids, chewy extract and a long, precise finish. It's promisingly tight-knit and should develop further before it's bottled.Inc. GSTSG$4,029.16 -

A notably ripe but not really exotic nose attractively layered and fresh aromas that combine floral nuances with those of citrus peel, pear and soft spice hints. There is good energy to the medium weight flavors that possess solid detail on the palate coating finish that is at once clean, dry and, minerally and still a bit youthfully austere. This is a quality 2018 that is coming along nicely and is a wine that could easily be enjoyed now though I would advise holding it for another few years in the hopes that more depth will progressively develop.
