The 2021 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru is strict with wet pavement and green apple/pear scents on the nose, though it does open with time in the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry, yet this is somehow conservative and does not really exploit the potential of this 1er Cru. Played it safe? Then again, there is a lovely creamy finish with a dash of spice that urges you back for more. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$585.96 -

The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes showed very well from barrel, and it's just as good in bottle. Wafting from the glass with notes of pear, waxy citrus rind, white flowers, freshly baked bread and honeycomb, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, with an elegantly muscular profile and a long, precise finish.Inc. Perfumed aromas of hazelnut, lime and spice. Rich but racy and stylish; youthful and minerally. Rather elegantly styled wine, quite precise for the vintage. Very long on the finish. Lafon now uses just 50% new oak for his Genevrieres; as recently as 1992, this was made in all new barrels.Inc. GSTSG$686.59 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (94-96)
The 2018 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru has a refined bouquet with scents of pressed yellow flowers infusing the citrus fruit, touches of ocean spray emerging and lending complexity with time. The palate is extremely well balanced. A quintessential Genevrières with a killer saline finish that is an absolute joy. Wonderful.Inc. GSTSG$790.15 -

Lafon’s. 2006 Meursault Gouttes d’Or displays ripe pear and apple, along with a prominent alkaline mineral character. Penetrating, bright, and overtly chalky, this finishes with a long fruit and mineral colloquy, and invigoratingly bitter hints of citrus zest and quinine. I suspect this Meursault – which Lafon was set to bottle last – can be counted on for 7-10 years of interesting bottle maturation. The 2005 – plush wine with a spine – exhibits a saline, carnal intensity that calls to mind Chablis.Inc. GSTSG$996.15 -
Vinous (92-93)
(tasted from tank): Pale, bright green-tinged yellow. Very pure aromas of lemon, lime and honey. Rich and lively on the palate, conveying a strong impression of saline dry extract but also a distinctly fine-grained texture. Precise flavors of lime blossom, menthol and white pepper are nicely framed and extended by harmonious acidity. An excellent showing.Inc. GSTSG$4,247.16 -

(1x75cl) 2011Vinous (94)
The 2011 Meursault Perrières is without question the most complete of the 2011 1er Crus from Comtes Lafon. Refined and impeccably polished throughout, the 2011 is vivid in the glass, with crystalline purity and seemingly endless layers of fruit. Pear, peach, spice, slate and licorice notes all emerge from a powerful, tense Meursault loaded with class and pedigree. As is often the case, the Perrières borrows from both the Charmes and Genevrières.Inc. GSTSG$1,040.84 -
(1x75cl) 2013Vinous (93-95)
(ready to bottle): Bright, light yellow. Aromas of lemon drop, pineapple and wet stone. Dense and sappy but not austere, showing serious thickness of texture to its urgent flavors of peach, pineapple and minerals. Finishes firm and extremely long but without obvious phenolic character. This is 2010-like in quality but not at all hard. (I will wait to taste the Montrachet in finished form as it had just been racked into tank at the end of May and was extremely reduced. This huge--13.2% natural alcohol--but more phenolic wine boasts outstanding concentration but will clearly require extended cellaring.)Inc. GSTSG$1,029.94 -
Vinous (94+)
Pale, bright yellow. Extremely precise aromas of soft citrus fruits, crushed rock and smoky minerality. Enters the mouth silky and thick but lively, showing a seamless texture along with lovely gingery spicy lift. A wonderfully dry but ripe Perrières with a fine dusting of stone and superb energy and class. More mineral and less floral than the Genevrières.Inc. GSTSG$1,159.30 -
(1x75cl) 2016Vinous (94)
(the yield here was 35 hectoliters per hectare): Pungent scents of grapefruit, pineapple and crushed rock, plus a whiff of orange zest. Sappy, sharply delineated and tightly coiled yet still compellingly supple and fine-grained. Distinctly airy citrus, white peach and mineral flavors show exceptional inner-mouth lift. Finishes with outstanding subtle length and a lemony high note. Less fat, powerful and saline than the 2015 Perrières but a wine of exceptional precision.Inc. GSTSG$1,089.54 -
Vinous (96-98)
The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru rivets you to the spot with crushed pebble and crushed limestone scents that could only really originate from this vineyard. Such intensity! The beautifully balanced palate delivers a fabulous line of acidity, notes of orange zest and white peach and a stunning crescendo toward the finish, which shows amazing persistence. A Les Perrières with class. Brilliant.Inc. GSTSG$3,620.69 -
Vinous (96-98)
The 2019 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has a wondrous, life-affirming bouquet that asserts its authority and class over the other Premier Crus. No disrespect, but they just do not convey the same enthralling degree of mineralité and tension on the nose, by some margin. The palate is supremely well balanced with great penetration and outstanding nerve and mineralité toward the finish. Hints of stem ginger and white pepper tantalize on the aftertaste. Superb.Inc. The 2020 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has quite a rich bouquet with tropical tones, maybe to the detriment of the mineralité that is slightly masked at the moment. The palate is very well balanced with a fine line of acidity, quite saline, lightly spiced with a vibrant finish that finally delivers the spiciness. Although somewhat reserved at present, this has the makings of a monumental wine. Quince, ripe apricot and nectarine aromas are accented with hints of spice and marzipan. The texture has impressive density and power, balancing substance and elegance to linger impressively on the palate. Should begin to open three to five years after release and will drink well for 30 years or more. A portion of Lafon’s three-quarters of a hectare here has been replanted, but this is only the old-vine portion.Inc. GSTSG$5,844.01 -
(1x75cl) 2012Vinous (92+)
Good full yellow. Aromas and flavors of ripe yellow peach and clove. Large-scaled, rich and highly concentrated, conveying an old-vines density of texture. This was the last premier cru Lafon harvested in 2012 but there's excellent acidity here to support the wine's spicy richness. The slightly tannic finish conveys power and firm structure.Inc. GSTSG$622.28 -
Vinous (91-93)
(on its finings, with a higher level of CO2 due to the fact that its malolactic fermentation finished very late, in tank): A note of musky reduction to the cooler aromas of nectarine, crushed stone and hazelnut. Then surprisingly silky and suave but tight and high-pitched in the mouth, with its stone fruit flavors conveying a distinctly dry impression and solid underlying structure. This sexy but backward wine will benefit from some aeration at the bottling and has the structure to age. This was actually the last premier cru vineyard picked in 2016 because the fruit here ripens later. The vibrant, tongue-dusting finish shows a lightly saline quality.Inc. GSTSG$758.18 -
