  • Joseph Drouhin Meursault 1er Cru Perrieres 2014 (3x150cl)

    Vinous (92+)

Pale, bright yellow. Tight, bright aromas of lemon-lime, grapefruit pith and crushed stone. Pliant on entry, then adamantly minerally and firm in the middle palate and dominated by its structure. But this very intense, fine-grained wine really resounds on the finish. Very closed today but has the balance and backbone to age gracefully.

  • Joseph Drouhin Meursault 1er Cru Perrieres 2016 (12x75cl)

    Decanter (92)

Aromas of pear, crushed rock and flowers precede a concentrated, minerally, almost saline Perrieres, with a rich core of fruit and a precise, stony finish despite its mid-palate amplitude.

  • Joseph Drouhin Meursault 1er Cru Perrieres 2021 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (89-91)

The 2021 Meursault Perrières 1er Cru is just missing a little _mineralité _and terroir expression compared to others that I tasted from this noble site. Maybe just a little closed at the present? The palate follows suit, perfectly well balanced though it just lacks a bit of verve and tension. Afford this two or three years in bottle and let's see if it has something up its sleeve.

  • Joseph Drouhin Meursault 2018 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (16)

Fermented in oak, 18–20% new, as for most village whites. Cask sample. Intense fruit aroma with notes of clementine and ripe lemons and a light touch of spice. Ripe and spicy. Super-creamy, with some almond and quite obvious oak on the palate – obvious at the moment but there’s freshness underneath. Not very subtle but lots of pleasure. Plenty of volume in the mouth, quite a powerful wine.

  • Joseph Drouhin Meursault 2020 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (93)

A classically structured wine for this appellation with the weight and round generosity that we expect from it, but with plenty of bright citrus and pear fruit, something these wines can lack a bit of. Good depth with an excellent integration of chalky minerality and healthy acidity at the long and delicate finish. With aeration a touch of vanilla bean develops on the nose. Drink or hold.

Some light green reflections in the primrose yellow colour. A stricter nose, perhaps a touch of sulphur. This may also appear more backward coming after the Charmes. Then a vast wealth of fruit on the palate and now we see the real wine. It maintains the herbal note I associate with Genevrières, alongside golden fruit at a perfect degree of ripeness. The fruit and the acidity weave in and out of each other. I would not want the fruit to be riper but it is full of charm as it stands, and kept in place by the precision of the structure. Very fine. Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet has a little softer orchard fruit compared to the Bourgogne, and is very true to its Meursault roots. The white fruit continues on the palate and is now joined by a saline note, while the ripe apples give an immediate appeal. There are little waves of flavour towards the back of the palate. Once again the aftertaste is fine, precise and thoroughly promising. Drink from 2027-2032.

The 2019 Meursault Sous le Dos l’Ane 1er Cru has a very Puligny-like bouquet, well defined, quite poised with traces of yellow plum and apricot, very pretty. The palate is quite edgy on the opening. There is a small reduction at play here, but fine weight and concentration with a tensile, stem ginger-tinged finish that is very satisfying. The 2009 Meursault Charmes is a rather large-scaled, bombastic white bursting with fruit. • Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2017 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru comes from Domaine Prieur-Brunet, specifically two plots in Meursault Charmes-Dessus (1.2 hectares), one close to Les Referts and the other close to Genevrières. These are integrated with existing vineyards owned by Louis Jadot, so the label will be under Domaine Louis Jadot and not Prieur-Brunet. This has a pretty, quite precise bouquet of citrus fruit infused with yellow flower aromas; light touches of walnut emerge with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and a hint of black currant leaf toward the finish; certainly a more elegant take on this Premier Cru. The cru has clearly benefited from the addition of the new holdings. An excellent Meursault.

  • Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane 2009 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (90)

Pale yellow. Expressive nose offers ripe peach and an exotic soft citrus quality. Silky, dry and rich, with a distinctly honeyed ripeness. The juicy finish is buttressed by dusty minerality but this broad wine could nonetheless use a bit more mid-palate cut. These vines were planted in 1995 and 2004.

  • Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

The 2019 Meursault Sous le Dos l’Ane 1er Cru has a very Puligny-like bouquet, well defined, quite poised with traces of yellow plum and apricot, very pretty. The palate is quite edgy on the opening. There is a small reduction at play here, but fine weight and concentration with a tensile, stem ginger-tinged finish that is very satisfying. Maybe not long-term, but utterly delicious. Closure: Diam 30

  • Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane 2020 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (90)

The 2020 Meursault Sous Le Dos d'Ane offers traces of orchard fruit, hints of linseed and hazelnut, nicely focused and gains intensity in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a slightly tangy entry, hints of orange rind and fresh pear and moderate depth with a tensile and slightly pithy finish.

  • Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane 2021 (6x75cl)
  • Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 2009 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91)

The 2009 Meursault Charmes is a rather large-scaled, bombastic white bursting with fruit. Here the oak is a bit more pronounced, but not necessarily out of character given the wine's big, boisterous personality. All of the elements come together beautifully on the expansive finish. The Charmes saw 33% new barrels.

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)

Clear mid yellow. So much energy here too. An impressively racy quality with plenty of weight, very Charmes in character, strong fruit, and then a crunch of acidity. A little saline touch yet also some of the more exotic side. Drink from 2026-2033. Tasted: October 2022
