(1x75cl) 2018Vinous (92-94)
The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from a south-facing parcel and sees a little less new oak than the Chevalier-Montrachet. It has a more Zen-like bouquet than the Chevalier-Montrachet, which goes against type considering the vineyards in question. The lightly spiced palate is well balanced with a fine saline entry and good weight toward the lemongrass-tinged finish, which feels persistent and satisfying. Good potential.Inc. GSTSG$299.29 -

Pale primrose, less reductive. The fruit expands gorgeously on the palate, as well as the nose, very expressive and absolutely fruit driven. No bananas, plenty of ripe citrus fruit, plenty of stones. Textbook Corton-Charlemagne from a sunny vintage. Tasted: October 2020Inc. GSTSG$300.38 -
(3x75cl) 2021Vinous (91-93)
The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comprises just one-third as much fruit as in 2022 and demanded twice as many treatments. It is just missing a bit of presence on the nose, with hints of white flowers and honeysuckle. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, orange pith and hints of white peach and touches of white tea towards a very elegant finish. Hopefully, the aromatics will awaken by the time of bottling.Inc. GSTSG$1,120.19 -

There is a hint of exoticism to the cool and admirably pure citrus, pear and green apple suffused nose that is presently trimmed in a noticeable, if very slight, touch of reduction. The rich and extremely fresh middle weight plus flavors possess an impressive amount of dry extract as well as ample mineral influence on the austere and ultra-pure finish that seems to go on and on. This powerful and impeccably well-balanced effort is still very much on the way up and will need another 5 to 7 years before it reaches its full apogee. Tasted twice recently with consistent notes.Inc. GSTSG$7,474.04 -

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti has turned out beautifully, offering up aromas of crisp pear and green apple mingled with notions of hazelnuts, lime zest, white flowers, nutmeg and freshly baked bread. Full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's ample but incisive, with a vibrant spine of acidity and chalky structuring extract. Combining the depth and intensity of flavor of 2019 with supplemental cut and tension, it's a step up in quality from that excellent debut vintage.Inc. GSTSG$11,814.77 -

The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was heavily affected by the frost resulting in just four barrels rather than the usual 16 or 17; their plot is located on the Ladoix side. At the moment there is quite a bit of reduction on the nose that occludes the terroir expression at the moment. The palate is taut and fresh, a judicious slice of bitter lemon lends tension that sutures with the apricot and lemongrass notes on the finish that has a little more persistence than the Bâtard-Montrachet.
