The 2014 vintage, made under the meticulous supervision of celebrated winemaker, Ludivine Griveau, enjoyed an extended fermentation with full malolactic conversion in oak barrels. (from redder soil over rock; 30 hectoliters per hectare produced): Pale yellow. Aromas of iodine, crushed rock and spicy oak. Chewy and densely packed but quite backward, currently dominated by wet stone and mineral notes. Finishes powerful but youthfully austere, with a repeating wet stone character. Lamy has been planting part of this vineyard at high density, but this fruit is not yet part of the wine. The 2012 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles was broody, obdurate and stubbornly closed on the nose when tasted out of barrel, but with encouragement reveals some lime leaf and even peppermint aromas. A tantalizing glimpse of what is to come? The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru has a pretty nose with candied orange peel and light oily/linseed aromas. The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru comes from red clay soils planted in 1988. This is cut from a different cloth to Lamy's Saint-Aubins: chamomile, white tea and light hazelnuts, almost Meursault-like in style. The palate is tensile on the entry, with fine bitter lemon notes intermixed with peach skin and stem ginger that give the final third an additional dimension. The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet La Concis de Champs had wild variations in potential alcohol and acidity levels, caused by differing rootstocks, vine ages, pruning techniques, etc., that made it difficult for Olivier Lamy to pick. This has a bright red apple and lime bouquet that feels well defined. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and very pure. A lovely touch of bitter lemon enlivens and lends edge on the finish. Excellent.In BondSG$1,715.00
