The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroie 1er Cru shows a bit of eggy SO2 on the nose that blurs the edges. Despite rigorous aeration I found it impossible to shift. The palate is balanced, missing a bit of acidity, yet lacks a bit of amplitude. With modest depth, at least it is harmonious on the white peach and Clementine-infused finish that becomes woody with aeration. Perhaps give it another year in bottle. Reticent nose hints at menthol and spices. Then wonderfully flavorful and gripping in the mouth, with a sweet orange marmalade flavor framed by lively acidity. This is slightly more complex if a bit less elegant with its equally broad-ranging nose of apple, pear, white flowers and mandarin orange, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to warrant mentioning. There is outstanding volume to the concentrated, powerful and palate coating flavors that are supported by a firm acid spine on the tension-filled and massively persistent finish. Compared to the premier crus at this address, this wine offers another dimension on the nose, with aromas of pear, white flowers, almond and hazelnut complemented by deeper-pitched soil tones and a hint of dried fruits. Hugely rich but surprisingly energetic on the palate, conveying seamless flavors of yellow and dried fruits and salty minerality. Totally saturates the mouth and mounts on the back end without leaving any impression of heaviness. Mid lemon yellow. There is a slight reduction to the nose. All the weight appears on the palate with a gorgeously sensual deep white fruit, not heavy at all. White pepper. (Don't Miss!) A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably more floral-suffused aromas of citrus confit, exotic tea, anise and white peach. The gorgeously textured large-scaled flavors possess outstanding cut and minerality that contrasts with the exceptionally dry, austere and massively long finish. Reticent nose hints at menthol and spices. Then wonderfully flavorful and gripping in the mouth, with a sweet orange marmalade flavor framed by lively acidity. At once superripe and precise, and fresh and very long on the aftertaste. This was picked at the beginning of the harvest, with potential alcohol of 13.8%. Boasts superb intensity and density of material. In BondSG$8,675.00 -

This is a big yet well-balanced Bâtard that should age for a very long time yet be approachable after only 5-ish years or so.In BondSG$1,355.00 -

Boillot told me that the 2017 version of this wine is a bit higher in acidity but this bottle boasts excellent verve. In BondSG$3,000.00 -

The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is showing brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, honeycomb, white flowers, orange oil and wheat toast. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and muscular, with lively acids and an impressively structured, introverted profile for the vintage, concluding with a long, saline finish. In BondSG$1,330.00 -

Mid lemon yellow. There is a slight reduction to the nose. All the weight appears on the palate with a gorgeously sensual deep white fruit, not heavy at all. White pepper. There is no sign of the reduction on the palate. An exceptional example with more tension at the back, great potential for the long term. Guillaume Boillot has dialled down to 50% new wood here and that is plenty. Tasted: 10/1/2021In BondSG$3,836.00 -

The holding is right in the middle of Bâtard-Montrachet, with rows all the way up and down. Mid yellow. A weighty punchy bouquet, not quite so fine. Massive on the palate and the fruit takes on a whiter, not over ripe configuration, with excellent thread of acidity. Still an absolute baby but will certainly achieve its grand cru status. Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022In BondSG$1,130.00 -

A glowing pale yellow. Super-concentrated if not yet very yielding bouquet. Extra tension here, certainly some depth, but perhaps more in class than power. That will change with time – the class with remain but the depth will expand. White fruit, tension, some youthful bitters, but keeping itself to itself for the moment. Really very long finish though. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted: December 2023.In BondSG$876.00 -

No new wood for the generic Bourgogne. Pale lemon and lime, slight sandalwood to the nose. Pure and crisp with a lemon and salty finish, excellent density a little barrel toast. Long finish. This Bourgogne Chardonnay shows typical Boillot purity and precision. Tasted: 10/1/2021In BondSG$327.00 -

From appellation Bourgogne vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault along with a bit of St-Aubin and Auxey-Duresses. Mid lemon yellow, with a very engaging correctly ripe Burgundian chardonnay bouquet. Sign up for this. There is still some gas present at the moment which enforces the welcome freshness. (a single new 228-liter barrel): Bright pale yellow. Knockout nose combines white peach, nectarine, crushed rock and white pepper, with spicy oak in a complementary role. Penetrating, savory flavors of lemon, lime, peach and crushed stone convey an impression of power without weight. Really terrific fruit and mineral intensity here. The slightly phenolic finish features superb building length. An outstanding expression of terroir. In BondSG$6,500.00 -

Burghound (97)
(Don't Miss!) A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably more floral-suffused aromas of citrus confit, exotic tea, anise and white peach. The gorgeously textured large-scaled flavors possess outstanding cut and minerality that contrasts with the exceptionally dry, austere and massively long finish. This strikingly pure effort is packed with potential but note well that it's not likely to be a wine that permits early accessibility. In sum, this is a classic Chevalier in the making, but patience will absolutely be required. In BondSG$4,350.00
