The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is the best of the four wines I tasted from the Domaine. Clean and well-defined on the nose, it offers attractive red berry fruit with pressed rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, demonstrating good substance for a Gevrey Village, though it lacks a bit of finesse on the finish. Fine.

Vinous - Neal Martin (90)

The 1993 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from an era when the Mugneret sisters were still familiarizing themselves with winemaking following the untimely passing of their father three years earlier. One can see this as a work in progress. A little austere on the nose, it never quite delivers the depth of fruit and concentration of a top Ruchottes. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly "bony" tannins, a little disjointed in style. It shows balsamic-tinged red fruit, with plenty of freshness with pleasing piquancy on the finish. To be frank, this 1993 is not a patch on vintages produced in the last decade or so.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Despite some reduction, there is clearly plenty of attractive ripe red berry fruit on the nose of Mugneret-Gibourg’s Ruchottes-Chambertin 2011: cranberry, wild strawberry and touches of blueberry. The palate is less masculine and reserved compared to when I tasted it at the domaine at the end of 2013. Here it feels more velvety on the entry. It has a cashmere texture with well-judged acidity and superb structure. The fruit is darker than Christophe Roumier's Ruchottes, but there is very good weight and persistence on the finish that bodes well for the future.

The 2012 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the outstanding wines of the vintage. Pure and sensual on the nose, replete with that breath-taking clarity, it dares to show more fruit intensity than the Romanée-Saint-Vivant from DRC served blind alongside. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red cherries and crushed stone, very mineral-driven with a wonderful, linear finish that is saving fireworks for those with the nous to age this another four or five years. Brilliant. Tasted blind at 67 Pall Mall in London.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru was showing some quality new oak on the nose that still needs to be subsumed. It is tightly coiled but it just needs time because there is freshness, definition and beguiling complexity locked in here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very well judged acidity and clever use of new oak lending body without compromising terroir expression. The finish feels focused and satisfying and the texture leaves you totally seduced. Class, class, class. Tasted September 2016.

The 2014 Ruchottes-Chambertin is a wondrous wine. Two recent tastings in Burgundy reconfirmed its strong performance when poured blind at the Burgfest tasting. It has an intense pomegranate and raspberry scented bouquet that seems to switch up through the gears with aeration. The 2015 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru shows quite a bit of new oak on the nose of dusky black fruit laced with tobacco and a little sous-bois, all nicely defined but burly and broad-shouldered. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin and somewhat dry and oppressive at the moment, although there is substance on the finish. Sinewy and almost rustic in style, this is almost an anachronistic Grand Cru, but one that I am fascinated to see evolve. Lo and behold, it ameliorates with aeration, implying that the future is assured. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
