(3x150cl) 2017Wine Advocate (89)
The 2017 Pommard Les Petits Noizons is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with aromas of wild berries, smoked meats, rich soil tones, cinnamon and spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, delicate and fine-boned, its perfumed core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and ripe acids. This is an elegant, gently reductive Pommard that should offer a broad drinking window.Inc. GSTSG$680.68 -

(6x75cl) 2021Vinous - Neal Martin (93)
The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru sports some reduction on the nose, although behind that lies attractive brambly red berry fruit and earthy, almost peaty scents tucked in behind it. Clearly, this will need a couple more years to unfurl. The palate offers plenty of crunchy red fruit, quite tart at first, though it feels tensile and mineral driven. There is some tapering towards the finish where it would benefit from more substance and grip but overall, a good effort in this vintage. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$865.90 -
(6x75cl) 2020Vinous (91-93)
The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru includes 50% whole bunch. This has a welcoming bouquet with raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit, hints of pressed rose petals and coniferous trees. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, fine grip, a little compact towards the finish, though it should flesh out in bottle. Quite poised and sustained.Inc. GSTSG$749.27 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru includes one-quarter whole bunch this year. It has a well-defined bouquet of more black than red fruit, plus touches of white pepper and crushed limestone. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, cohesive and silky-smooth. Again, a little more grip would be nice, although it has plenty of charm. Drink after 3–4 years in bottle.Inc. GSTSG$190.65 -
(1x75cl) 2013Vinous (91+)
Good medium red. Cool, medicinal black cherry, blueberry and violet on the nose. Concentrated, ripe and sappy, showing excellent texture and intense spice character for the vintage. Finishes juicy and long, with some very ripe chocolate tones and big, tactile tannins that avoid dryness. This will need patience.Inc. GSTSG$162.30 -
(1x75cl) 2012Vinous (90-92+)
The 2012 Nuits St. Georges Les Damodes is plump, juicy and inviting on the palate, with lovely depth and resonance. This is another wine that comes across as raw and not fully formed. In this case, the malos aren't fully finished yet. Still, there appears to be plenty of mid-palate pliancy here to suggest the Damodes will develop nicely over the coming months and years.Inc. GSTSG$179.74 -
(6x75cl) 2011Wine Advocate (87)
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. This Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes 2011 has a ripe bouquet, even though there is a touch of reduction, the oak lending light chocolate scents toward the red fruit that appear to ebb away in the glass and flow back with more maritime aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with quite succulent and fleshy tannins. The oak is pronounced here and feels a little dominant on the finish, although there is good weight and a pleasant spicy aftertaste. Hopefully, that unresolved wood will assimilate over the next couple of years and it might then merit a higher score.Inc. GSTSG$961.82 -

Vinous (89-91)
The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Thorey 1er Cru comes from two small parcels that are vinified separately. The nose is perfumed with wilted rose petals and peony filtering through the transparent red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and crisp acidity. It's not complex, but there is balance and focus, plus an attractive peppery finish. An early-drinking delight.Inc. GSTSG$918.22 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Thorey 1er Cru comes from three-hectares of vines with thte 50% whole bunch courtesy of the old vines. The nose offers dark cherries, crushed strawberry and wild hedgerow scents, fine delineation and vigour. The palate is slightly creamy in texture on the entry, quite plush and fruit-driven, pure red cherries and strawberry fruit with a sleek and caressing finish. Predesigned to seduce, this should age well in bottle.Inc. GSTSG$695.94 -
(3x150cl) 2017Wine Advocate (92)
The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de Thorey is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of cherries, wild berries and cassis, mingled with notes of raw cocoa, cinnamon and sweet forest floor. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and velvety, with a sappy core of nicely concentrated fruit, melting tannins and lively acids. Exemplifying the elegant style of contemporary Domaine de la Vougeraie, this has turned out very well.Inc. GSTSG$1,249.66 -
(6x75cl) 2016Vinous (92)
The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de Thorey 1er Cru has a lot of toasty oak on the nose plus a touch of reduction. The aromatics are opaque and as a consequence it is not as engaging as some of its peers, though there is attractive whole bunch influence. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, moderate acidity, a little chewy in texture with dark berry fruit mixed with spicebox and white pepper. At least there is fine cohesion on the finish - give it 4 or 5 years in bottle. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$726.49 -
Vinous (91-93)
(I tasted this and the following wines in the estate's grand cru cellar, which is typically 2 degrees C cooler): Subdued but very pure aromas of black fruits. Juicy, crunchy and intense in the mouth, with a salty complexity to the flavors of black raspberry and red licorice. Finishes very long, with fine-grained tannins and a sappy flavor of black cherry. This is Vincent's second vintage for this wine, which comes from vines that face southeast but also benefit from the cooling influence of the Combe de la Serrée.Inc. GSTSG$159.41 -

Vinous - Neal Martin (94)
The 2021 Musigny Grand Cru clearly has some whole cluster influence, which here is proportional to the fruit concentration. Red cherry and strawberry, cracked black pepper and sage. The palate is medium-bodied with finely sculpted tannins and just a splash of balsamic that infused the red berry fruit, dovetailing into quite a peppery and vibrant finish. Great length. A wine to bunker down in your cellar to resist temptation. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$9,642.66 -

Coming from two parcels totaling only 0.2 hectares, this was whole cluster-fermented then aged in 40% new oak. It is seamless. Scents of mulberries and blueberries deliver impressive fruit purity. The spice-laden palate has a luxurious, taffeta-like texture with svelte tannins and elegant acidity. It is so well-knit that it is almost ready to drink now, but it will deliver pleasure for decades to come. 2024-42Inc. GSTSG$5,401.76 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)
100% whole bunch vinification. Most of the vines date back to 1928-29 with a few from 1989. Glowing imperial purple. The nose mirrors the majesty. Starts discreetly then swells on the palate. The wine is entirely harmonious with perfectly integrated light touch of acidity. It is very far from being massive but it is a beauty nonetheless.Inc. GSTSG$5,336.36 -

The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru has a complex nose with evidence of some stem addition here lending an underlying peppery character. You could argue that at this stage it rather obscures the terroir expression, though the whole bunch seems commensurate with the fruit. The palate is crisp and precise, the stems lend a discrete peppery character. Not a powerful Musigny, yet perhaps the most elegant with a sensual kirsch-, liquorice-tinged finish. Wine Advocate (95-97)
There are two barrels of the 2016 Musigny Grand Cru, one new and one used, 100% whole bunch. There is much more gusto on the nose compared to the Bonnes-Mares, with upfront, expressive red cherry, wild strawberry and cold stone aromas, later complemented by wilted rose petals and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied, but there is much more body and presence here compared to the Bonnes-Mares: fine tannin, just the right amount of salinité with a complex and sustained finish. There is a nobility about this Musigny, and that is what we expect to find in a bottle. Superb.Inc. GSTSG$10,118.97 -

The 2009 Musigny is every bit as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel. A knock-out bouquet leads to super-ripe, floral infused red berries. The 2009 boasts extraordinary perfume, silky tannins and phenomenal balance. I especially like the understated intensity. This is a breathtaking effort from Pierre Vincent and La Vougeraie. (just two and a half barrels produced; from fruit destemmed by hand): Ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of red fruits, licorice and minerals. Vibrant, very intensely flavored and tightly wound; at once powerful and elegant. Superb building finish features serious tannins that are not at all hard or dry.
