The 2016 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a complex and higher toned bouquet compared to the Mazis-Chambertin from Faiveley: compelling aromas of blackberry, raspberry preserve, briary, sea cave and light rose petal aromas. The oak just needs more time to assimilate. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, and nicely pitched acidity. A tightly coiled finish feels abrupt for the moment. It just needs several years in bottle. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$417.37 -
Wine Advocate (96-98)
The 2015 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, which includes 40% stems, has a gorgeous, engaging bouquet with a conspicuous oyster shell/marine influence running through the crystalline red berry fruit. There is outstanding aromatics, tension and energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, harmonious and candied with finer tannin than the Mazoyères-Chambertin that one used to find with Bertrand Maume's wines, blessed with superb salinity and precision on the finish. This is a brilliant wine from Domaine Tawse, probably the best that has been made under the new ownership.Inc. GSTSG$446.80 -
Vinous (93-95)
(80% new oak; 60% vendange entier): Good dark red. Complex nose and palate meld cherry liqueur, animal fur, resiny spices and cedar, lifted by high notes of flowers and citrus peel. Very sweet, silky and ripe, with outstanding sappy verve giving this dense, tactile yet suave wine a noble quality. The very long, mounting finish shows superb fine-grained tannins and building sweetness. A real essence of this grand cru.Inc. GSTSG$2,018.11 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)
Domaine. 4 barrels, half new, 60% whole bunches, very healthy grapes here. Not too deep in colour, with a very stylish nose, albeit with the oak quite present in youth. A fair weight to this then a light sawdust note from the barrel. The intensity is more at the back of the palate and the length is impeccable.Inc. GSTSG$675.23 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Etelois is completely de-stemmed. It has a floral bouquet that bursts from the glass, revealing rose and iris petals and even a touch of lavender. The medium-bodied palate offers fleshy ripe tannins, fine acidity and a touch of allspice and clove toward the finish. There is still a touch of new oak to be subsumed, but this will be a very fine Aux Etelois.Inc. GSTSG$566.15 -

A blend from across the appellation, six vineyards making 24 barrels from 1.2ha. Lovely ruby purple. 15% whole bunch. Once again it gives the extra lift in this case on a more full-bodied fruit on the palate, raspberry and strawberry, good acidity and fine length. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Nov 2024.Expected Price RangeSG$440 - SG$538 -

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has the audacity to surpass the En Pallud this year. It has a potent nose that seems to jump out of the glass. Quite floral with hints of lavender intertwined with the vivacious red fruit. So much energy! That comes across on the palate too. Fine tannins, sapid and tensile, there is a brightness to this Village Cru that is quite thrilling. Superb.Inc. GSTSG$1,165.73 -

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village contains 20% whole bunch and 30% new oak. It has a lovely, lilting brambly red berry nose infused with orange blossom and sous-bois aromas; very charming. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, hints of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit and a persistent finish. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$157.22 -

Heavy reduction dwarfs the fruit today. Otherwise there is both good freshness and verve to the delicious and well-delineated flavors that possess fine depth and good minerality on the lingering but not really rustic finish. Worth checking out.Inc. GSTSG$154.32 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)
5 Star Wine. Two thirds of the vines were planted in from 1929, and the rest are not much younger. Very millerand grapes which were destemmed. Seven barrels made, which is unheard of even in the memory of the Maume family, whence these vines originated. Bright vigorous purple fruit, very sensual, picked at ideal ripeness, the fruit flowing across the palate, backed by useful tannins to finish. Drink from 2029-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.Inc. Domaine Two barrels, one new and one one year old, destemmed entirely. Some of the vines date back to 1929. Mid crimson colour, fine weight of strawberry fruit, absolutely fills the middle of the mouth, with quite a persistent finish. Clearly their preferred wine of the two whereas I fractionally prefer Champeaux. Both are very good indeed in 2025.Inc. GSTSG$1,433.08 -

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru contains no stems this year. It has a very delineated and focused bouquet with superb mineralité and tension. The palate is very well balanced with the 50% new oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine delineation and so much freshness thank to the limestone soils. Very fine tension on the tightly-coiled finish. This has great potential. Wonderful.Inc. GSTSG$2,018.11 -

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a wonderful, pixelated bouquet of vibrant red berry fruit, the cool microclimate imbuing this cru with great tension and precision. (6x75cl) 2023Burghound (90-93)
Moderate wood stops short of being invasive on the ripe wild red and dark currant, violet and subtle sauvage-suffused nose. The wonderfully fine, if not especially dense, middle weight flavors firm up on the serious, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. I like the balance and despite not being particularly concentrated, a wine that should age well over the mid-term.Expected Price RangeSG$904 - SG$1,105 -

Domaine. Four barrels, one new, 25% whole bunch. Picked 28th September, so towards the end. A gorgeous glowing fresh crimson purple. A light reduction on the nose, but not enough to hide the fruit. The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru seems to be fulfilling the promise it showed from barrel. Elegant and very pure on the nose, it unfurls with those same brambly red berry fruit scents, tinged with potpourri and wilted rose petal. The palate conveys that sense of transparency, filigreed tannins framing pretty red fruit, and shows decent grip on the finish. I can see this maturing with style.Inc. GSTSG$852.90 -

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru has a clean bouquet of red plum, meat juices and very subtle scorched earth aromas, full of character. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine delineation, nice poise and a judicious touch of spice. Focused, with ample structure, this is a Premier Cru that may have more longevity than its peers. I like the linearity here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. GSTSG$185.19 -

(40% vendange entier; this vineyard at 400 meters was harvested on October 4, with a normal crop level): Dark red with ruby tones. Sexy, wild Gevrey perfume combines black raspberry, game and earth. Finishes with ripe tannins and excellent palate-saturating length.Inc. GSTSG$184.10 -

(6x75cl) 2019Indulge in the richness of the Tawse Gevrey Chambertin Cherbaudes 2019, a luxurious burgundy wine boasting a delicate balance of power and elegance. Produced by Tawse Winery, a revered Canadian winery famed for its traditional yet sustainable approach, this French delight hails from the Gevrey-Chambertin village in the Côte de Nuits region. Deep red in hue, it beguiles the senses with tantalising notes of red fruits and a distinguished earthy undertone. Employing biodynamic viticulture principles, the 2019 Cherbaudes utilises grapes tediously hand-harvested from half-century old vines rooted in limestone-rich soils. It was expertly matured in French oak barrels for 18 months, providing a refined, layered complexity to this world-class Pinot Noir. The Tawse Gevrey Chambertin Cherbaudes 2019 is a true embodiment of the meeting of old-world refinement and avant-garde methodology.
