The 2021 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has a feisty bouquet that needs to show more restraint. Potpourri-infused red fruit, allspice and pine emerge with time and it finally begins to cohere. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, well balanced yet unapologetically understated. Showing plenty of finesse on the focused but tensile finish, this is a lovely Pommard that you might well misconstrue as coming from a more auspicious and costlier name.
