Vinous (95-97)The 2021 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru is backward and bashful on the nose despite coaxing, maybe a little overawed by the preceding Clos Saint-Denis? But if teasingly opens with time, ditto on the palate that delivers filigree tannins and an ethereal personality that defines the best Côtes de Nuits in this vintage. This is absolutely divine and is Collardot's greatest achievement in a difficult vintage. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)5 Star Wine. More of a crimson purple, raspberry seedless, taken a bit of oak, but superlative nonetheless and exceptionally long. Completely mouth filling with great charm, fills all the nooks and crannies. An excellent balance between the fruit acidity and tannins. Still going strong in my mouth several minutes later! Drink from 2032-2040. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)No deeper in colour, and not the most expressive on the nose, with a softer strawberry fruit, which then emerges with full force on the palate. A softer style, a little less tension than my favourites in this cellar this year, though with some wood tannins to help build the structure. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Wine Advocate (87-89)The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Village comes from two parcels that Thomas told me were only slightly touched by the frost, and it matured in one-third new oak. It has a crisp, well-defined and very natural bouquet that unfolds gracefully in the glass with vibrant red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannin and tightly knit red fruit. Maybe it misses a little weight toward the back end due to the difficulties in the appellation and the frost, but I admire the transparency here. |

Vinous (88-90)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village, matured in 30% new oak, has a generous bouquet of red berry fruit, plus touches of brown spice and light loamy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and lightly spiced red berry fruit mixed with white pepper and sage, dovetailing into a slightly compact but fresh finish. Fine. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Village, which contains 40% whole bunch, takes a few swirls of the glass to meld together, finally delivering airy blackberry and bilberry scents, perhaps more Morey in style than the titular village. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a granular texture and a salty, slightly brusque but fresh finish. Fine, but it will need some bottle age to smooth its edges. A second cuvée without the stems is perhaps just a little less interesting on the nose. Thomas Collardot is not sure what the final blend will constitute but I suspect there will be a few stems in there. |

Vinous (88-90)The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village, whose malolactic finished at the beginning of September, matured in 25-30% new oak, has a much more defined and fresher nose than the Bourgogne Rouge with lively black cherry and crushed strawberry scents. The palate is ripe and sweet, yet nicely controlled, the oak neatly integrated with quite a precocious tart finish. Maybe it just needs a little more persistency, but this will do nicely. (This blend includes 20% whole bunch. I tried a 40% whole bunch that is being trialled in three barrels. I actually preferred this, so it will either be blended together or bottled separately - no decision has been made yet.) |

Vinous (91-93)The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from Mazoyères, where their parcel is populated by vines planted in 1968 and 1969. The broody bouquet does not disguise that it is Mazoyères, not Charmes, the fruit profile darker than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip, a fine bead of acidity and a sinewy style. Don’t be afraid to afford this four to five years in bottle. Very fine. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)A vivid and vibrant fresh purple, reflecting the low pH (3.30). The nose is exuberant and vivacious at the same time. This is a late malolactic wine and has been reduced, but not today. Despite the thick texture and super charged raspberry, signs of higher alcohol (in fact 15%) I don’t feel any specific heat and the Charmes-Chambertin shows a pretty long finish. Vinous (92-94)The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from vines located in Mazoyères, has a splendid bouquet with blackberry, white tipped strawberry and light earthy scents that gradually unfurl in the glass.
