Jancis Robinson (17.5)Mid cherry red. One of the most voluptuous of these 2011 Clos Vougeots. Bitter cherries and lots of punchy fruit with attack. Still very youthful but with good potential. Dry but neat and clean finish. Some persistence. |

Burghound (95)Here the nose is similar to the regular cuvée from a compositional standpoint but the fruit is denser, slightly riper and more complex as well. The very concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent concentration as the copious dry extract both coats the palate and buffers the extremely firm tannic spine on the explosively long but impeccably well-balanced finish. This is distinctly old school in style and will require extended cellaring to arrive at its peak. I would not recommend buying this ultra-serious effort unless you have the express intention of cellaring it over the longer-term. |

Burghound (95)Noticeable but not invasive wood and menthol frame a slightly riper array of aromas that are quite similar to those of the regular cuvée. Here too there is outstanding density and power to the even more concentrated broad-shouldered and robust flavors that possess even better depth and persistence on the impeccably well-balanced, saline and palate coating finish. This is presently extremely primary and while it's clear that this offers huge upside development potential it's also clear that plenty of patience will be required. |

Vinous (94)(this is the last vintage of this wine to come entirely from a block of vines planted in 1910, and the last to be labeled Vieilles Vignes de Plus de 100 Ans, as François Labet is beginning a replanting program; beginning with 2015, this wine will come from several of Labet's holdings around the Clos and will simply be called Vieilles Vignes): Bright ruby-red. Lovely mineral and peony high notes lift dark fruits on the nose. Sappy, dense and penetrating, offering terrific concentration and lift to its flavors of dark berries, licorice and minerals. A superb vintage for this wine, less austere than some previous years. We're coming from an era of cooler soils to warmer soils, noted Labet. Global warming has been very good for Clos-Vougeot. This thick but energetic wines finishes with suave but serious building tannins and superb length. Incidentally, there was no separate Hommage bottling in 2014. |

Vinous (96)(13.2% alcohol; 18 hectoliters per hectare produced; from vines harvested on September 23): Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Explosive, fruit-dominated aromas of dark berries, cherry, spices, mint, menthol, flowers and minerals. Conveys compelling sappy energy in a silky, medium-bodied package, with its black fruit and herb flavors complicated by a touch of saline minerality. Boasts glorious density of fruit--and near-perfect balance in spite of the very low yield. The very long, rising, perfumed finish offers a serious tannic spine for aging but no rough edges. This penetrating, urgent, classic Clos Vougeot, a standout for the vintage, boasts real pinosity. François Labet told me that, beginning with his 2015s, he did not use enzymes and did not add any sulfur until the middle of the élevage, well after the malolactic fermentations finished. He bottled this 2016 with just 20 parts per million free sulfur and 35 total. |

Immerse yourself in the exquisite elegance of the Chateau de la Tour Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru VV 2017. This exclusive vintage, produced by one of Burgundy's most esteemed estates, represents the pinnacle of French viticulture. As the largest owner of vineyards within the iconic Clos de Vougeot, Chateau de la Tour masterfully exhibits the terroir's distinct characteristics. Sourced from vines planted in 1910, the harvest is meticulously hand-sorted to guarantee only the highest quality grapes in each bottle. An exemplar of careful vinification, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in open wooden vats, followed by ageing in new oak barrels. The result is an exquisite balance of rich, dark fruits and defined earthy undertones that linger on your palate. For any serious connoisseur, the Chateau de la Tour Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru VV 2017 is an incontestable testament to the region's winemaking prestige. |

Vinous (95)The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru displays more complexity and mineralité on the nose compared to the Cuvée Classique; the fruit is a little darker, revealing hints of cola and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, lithe and fine-boned. Slightly chalky-textured toward the precise finish. This is actually more 2019 in style. A resounding success. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is 60-70% whole cluster, not that you can discern on the nose, with around 45% new oak. It has a very pure and seductive bouquet with black cherries, violet and light sea spray/oyster shell scents that unfurl in the glass. The palate is very harmonious with gentle grip, pure and slightly granular in texture, fine depth with a silky smooth finish. This is a sophisticated, generous and seductive Clos de Vougeot that should age with style. |

Vinous (89)The 2003 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru does not have the same precision and freshness as the Méo-Camuzet on the nose - smudged blackberry and raspberry fruit, leather and undergrowth scents, the heat blurring the aromatics edges. The palate is medium-bodied with a candied, eucalyptus-tinged entry, the start of a medicinal Clos de Vougeot that feels compromised by the growing season rather than any winemaking fault. Here, it is just shown up by its counterpart from Jean-Nicolas Méo. Tasted at the Clos de Vougeot retrospective at Clos de Vougeot. |

Burghound (93)A background application of toasty oak frames an airy, pure and markedly ripe nose of beautifully well-layered dark berry fruit and plum where additional breadth is present in the form of dried flowers, spice and earth accents. The seductively textured, intense and muscular big-bodied flavors possess ripe tannins and plenty of dry extract, all wrapped in a balanced, lingering and energetic finish that is a bit less youthfully austere than usual. |

Vinous (92+)Bright, dark red-ruby. Black cherry and licorice on the ripe but cool nose. Concentrated and deep but light on its feet, showing strong minerality and inner-mouth tension. More energetic than the 2014 and very primary today. Finishes tactile, fresh and long. |

Burghound (93)A moderate application of wood frames the overtly floral and attractive fresh aromas of ripe dark cherry, cassis and soft earth hints. The sleek and delineated flavors possess a supple mid-palate though the youthfully austere finish tightens up quickly while evidencing a subtle trace of warmth. This moderately structured effort should be approachable after only 6 to 8 years but reward 12 to 15. |

Vinous (93)(these 2015s were bottled in June of '17): Dark red with ruby tones. Very ripe, almost exotic aromas of black cherry, dark plum, licorice and menthol, with lower-pitched notes of damp earth and clove; less perfumed than the 2016 version. Compellingly rich and broad but showing a bit more alcoholic weight and warmth than the '16 (the alcohol here is 13.6%, vs. 13.2% for the earlier vintage) and already shutting down in the bottle. Finishes with broad, dusty, building tannins and strong medicinal reserve. |
