Vinous (94-96)The 2019 Clos de La Roche Grand Cru contains 80% whole bunches this year and underwent just a couple of punch-downs. There is a tiny amount of reduction on the nose as I taste it, gradually opening to reveal raspberry, blackcurrant and violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins matched with a very fine bead of acidity. This is a very cohesive and refined Grand Cru with a lilting, carefree finish that belies its inherent complexity and persistent. Easy to under-estimate this, I am sure it will age with style. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)80% whole bunch. Really intense black colour with a purple rim. The bouquet does not want to speak quite yet. A little bit of wood, a light herbaceous note from the stems which departs rapidly, but the promise of such intensity. Morello cherries? A crackling freshness on the palate, mineral threads, a superb and classic texture, huge weight. Everything is there. Tasted: December 2021 |

Burghound (94)(from a .72 ha holding; 50% whole cluster). Here too there is just a whiff of reduction that also stops short of overshadowing the ripe and beautifully layered aromas that are composed by notes of poached plum and a variety of spice elements. I very much like the texture of the delicious medium-bodied flavors that, even if not especially dense, still possess good power and minerality while delivering excellent depth and length on the balanced bitter pit fruit finish that really fans out as it sits on the palate. Excellent. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)5 Star Wine. Ruby purple, with a fine concentration of dark red fruit picked at optimum ripeness. The whole bunches (90%) give a further lift to the nose, while what starts well in bouquet really gains ground on the palate. Everything is perfectly in place, a really striking Clos de la Roche with a suave middle ground and long, perfectly balanced finish. As always, this is a vineyard built for ageing. Making me smile! And the best news – there are 13 barrels! Drink from 2033-2045. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis en la Rue de Vergy has a more introspective nose than last year and demands coaxing, reluctantly revealing black plum and raspberry scents, hints of Earl Grey and a light marine influence. The palate is beautifully balanced with impressive red cherry and wild strawberry notes, gentle grip and a judicious touch of pepper on the finish. This is a level-up from the previous vintage. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chenevery 1er Cru contains 80% whole bunches. It has a bright, open, peppermint tinged bouquet that does not quite deliver the precision and complexity of the Faconnières. The palate is very well balanced with fine mineralité and the most terroir expressive of Lignier’s cuvées. Wonderful precision on the finish. If the aromatics step up a gear this will vie with the Faconnières as Lignier’s best Premier Cru. |
