Good medium red. Musky, evolved bouquet of chocolate, spices and porcini. Supple, spicy and sweet but fully evolved, with the mushroom and chocolate qualities carrying through on the palate. In a fairly simple, slightly pinched style, and past its fruit stage. Bruno Clair described 2001 as a tough year for us, with a difficult flowering and a bad July. We didn't have problems with cleanliness of the fruit but there was a wide range of ripeness within the same bunches ever since the flowering. (Clair also showed me his Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers, and that wine was a bit funkier on the nose, with its acidity taking over the palate; it was in decline.)Inc. GSTSG$8,408.04

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Fonteny 1er Cru has a fresh, vibrant and mineral-driven bouquet, touches of incense emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, lots of finesse here, just a touch lactic towards the finish but it's smooth and harmonious. I see this as being quite approachable compared to other vintages. In BondSG$1,065.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)
5 Star Wine. Beautiful colour here, a darker crimson, and the fruit is magical. Perfectly on the red and black cusp while the whole bunches add a floral note. The Clos du Fonteny is on terrific form today with a fine balance of acidity to finish, alongside balanced tannins. A fine long aftertaste. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.In BondSG$212.00 -

(6x150cl) 1995Vinous (91+)
Very good deep red-ruby color. Pungent, deep aromas of raspberry, blackberry and mocha. Supple and dense, with excellent concentration. Fresh and fruity, with lovely inner-mouth flavor. Stylish and pure, but also less evolved than the Cazetiers. This may well shut down over the coming months. Quite long; tannins are more evenly distributed than those of the Cazetiers. In BondSG$5,435.00 -
(12x75cl) 2001Vinous (90)
Good medium red. Musky, evolved bouquet of chocolate, spices and porcini. Supple, spicy and sweet but fully evolved, with the mushroom and chocolate qualities carrying through on the palate. In a fairly simple, slightly pinched style, and past its fruit stage. Bruno Clair described 2001 as a tough year for us, with a difficult flowering and a bad July. We didn't have problems with cleanliness of the fruit but there was a wide range of ripeness within the same bunches ever since the flowering. (Clair also showed me his Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers, and that wine was a bit funkier on the nose, with its acidity taking over the palate; it was in decline.)In BondSG$7,595.00
