Vinous - Neal Martin (90)
The 1993 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from an era when the Mugneret sisters were still familiarizing themselves with winemaking following the untimely passing of their father three years earlier. One can see this as a work in progress. A little austere on the nose, it never quite delivers the depth of fruit and concentration of a top Ruchottes. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly "bony" tannins, a little disjointed in style. It shows balsamic-tinged red fruit, with plenty of freshness with pleasing piquancy on the finish. To be frank, this 1993 is not a patch on vintages produced in the last decade or so.Inc. GSTSG$2,261.64 -

The 1996 Ruchottes-Chambertin was cropped at just 27hl/ha. Now with 21 years on the clock, atypical for this vintage, it has a sensual bouquet with scents of red fruit, cassis, quince and violet, though with continued aeration it develops a subtle earthiness. The palate is marked by very fine tannin, well judged acidity and quite a structured second half. This is still quite backward, but there is something very stylish here and for those with extraordinary patience it may well blossom...eventually! Deep red. Deeply pitched aromas of cherry, smoky oak, earth and tobacco. Very concentrated and dense; mouthfilling and wonderfully sweet but remarkably fresh and pure for a wine with such creamy texture. Lovely inner-mouth red fruits and florals. Finishes impressively long and sweet, with tannins enrobed by sheer fat. The yield was just 15 hectoliters per hectare in '98; after the harvest, a chunk of this parcel consisting of degenerating, low-yielding vines was replanted.Inc. GSTSG$2,038.19 -

Bright, deep red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry and exotic flowers; not at all cooked. Dense, sweet and extremely rich; this, too, really mounts on the back half spreads out to saturate the entire palate. The black fruit flavors seem quite young for the vintage. (1x75cl) 2009Vinous (95)
The 2009 Ruchottes-Chambertin was 100% de-stemmed. It has a gorgeous bouquet with vivid scents of plush red cherry fruit, cassis, violets and a hint of vanilla remaining from some new oak to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with an elegant, precise opening. It is embroidered with a perfect thread of acidity and gains momentum towards the finish that feels plush and sensual (not a million miles away from the 1999 stylistically). It needs three or four more years in bottle but there is great potential here. Tasted at the Ruchottes-Chambertin vertical in London.Inc. GSTSG$2,320.51 -
(1x75cl) 2010Vinous (93-95)
The 2010 Ruchottes-Chambertin is pure silk on the palate. Freshly cut roses, raspberries, mint and crushed rocks are some of the nuances that take shape in the glass. In 2010, the Ruchottes is rich, yet weightless, in the way only Burgundy can be. All the elements are beautifully woven together in this totally gracious, striking wine. This parcel is over 60 years old. The Mugneret sisters aren't in favor of using the Vieilles Vignes designation for the wines, as that term has no formal definition. The old vines go into Ruchottes, the young vines into the 1er Cru.Inc. GSTSG$2,674.76 -

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Despite some reduction, there is clearly plenty of attractive ripe red berry fruit on the nose of Mugneret-Gibourg’s Ruchottes-Chambertin 2011: cranberry, wild strawberry and touches of blueberry. The palate is less masculine and reserved compared to when I tasted it at the domaine at the end of 2013. Here it feels more velvety on the entry. It has a cashmere texture with well-judged acidity and superb structure. The fruit is darker than Christophe Roumier's Ruchottes, but there is very good weight and persistence on the finish that bodes well for the future.Inc. GSTSG$1,662.14 -

To be frank, this 1993 is not a patch on vintages produced in the last decade or so.In BondSG$2,065.00 -
(1x75cl) 1996Vinous (93+)
The yield was just 15 hectoliters per hectare in '98; after the harvest, a chunk of this parcel consisting of degenerating, low-yielding vines was replanted. In BondSG$1,860.00 -

Bright, deep red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry and exotic flowers; not at all cooked. Dense, sweet and extremely rich; this, too, really mounts on the back half spreads out to saturate the entire palate. The black fruit flavors seem quite young for the vintage. Here's a 2003 that needs time in the bottle. In BondSG$2,290.00 -
(1x75cl) 2009Vinous (95)
The 2009 Ruchottes-Chambertin was 100% de-stemmed. It has a gorgeous bouquet with vivid scents of plush red cherry fruit, cassis, violets and a hint of vanilla remaining from some new oak to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with an elegant, precise opening. It is embroidered with a perfect thread of acidity and gains momentum towards the finish that feels plush and sensual (not a million miles away from the 1999 stylistically). It needs three or four more years in bottle but there is great potential here. Tasted at the Ruchottes-Chambertin vertical in London. In BondSG$2,120.00 -
(1x75cl) 2010Vinous (93-95)
The 2010 Ruchottes-Chambertin is pure silk on the palate. Freshly cut roses, raspberries, mint and crushed rocks are some of the nuances that take shape in the glass. In 2010, the Ruchottes is rich, yet weightless, in the way only Burgundy can be. All the elements are beautifully woven together in this totally gracious, striking wine. This parcel is over 60 years old. The Mugneret sisters aren't in favor of using the Vieilles Vignes designation for the wines, as that term has no formal definition. The old vines go into Ruchottes, the young vines into the 1er Cru.In BondSG$2,445.00 -

The fruit is darker than Christophe Roumier's Ruchottes, but there is very good weight and persistence on the finish that bodes well for the future. In BondSG$1,515.00 -

The 2012 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the outstanding wines of the vintage. Pure and sensual on the nose, replete with that breath-taking clarity, it dares to show more fruit intensity than the Romanée-Saint-Vivant from DRC served blind alongside. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru was showing some quality new oak on the nose that still needs to be subsumed. It is tightly coiled but it just needs time because there is freshness, definition and beguiling complexity locked in here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very well judged acidity and clever use of new oak lending body without compromising terroir expression. The finish feels focused and satisfying and the texture leaves you totally seduced. Class, class, class. Tasted September 2016.In BondSG$2,390.00
