This is wonderfully detailed. The medium-bodied palate delivers fine-grained tannin. Not as deep as other vintages of Richebourg that I have encountered from the domaine, being lighter on its feet, yet it still displays good grip and a hint of graphite that lingers on the finish. Méo owns two parcels of Richebourg that border Cros Parantoux, mostly in Les Véroilles. The wine produced in 2019 was spectacular – among the highlights of the vintage. This is among the most transparent reflections of the terroir of Richebourg. Just enough red notes mixing in with the black. Waves of flavour! A darling of mine in 2018 says Jean-Nicolas and for the first time in barrel I find this wine to be an absolute knock-out. The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru has a compelling bouquet, mainly red fruit with hints of blueberry, pressed violet and a distant tang of shucked oyster shells. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled, slightly chalky tannins, fresh and marine-influenced with a long saline finish. Saturated bright ruby-red. Knockout nose combines black raspberry, licorice, minerals, meat and smoke. Large-scaled and impressively dense, with superb energy to the dark fruit, licorice, mineral, spice and game flavors. The explosive finish is like an avalanche over the palate, driving out everything in its wake. Substantial ripe tannins are hidden by complex finishing flavors of red fruits, smoked meat and leather.
