(6x75cl) 2007Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-95)
Good bright, deep red. Raspberry, minerals, flowers and smoke on the soil-driven nose. Silky on entry, then broad, elegant and deep, with vibrant flavors of dark berries, blood orange and minerals. This really fills the mouth with perfume and saturates the palate on the aftertaste, but there's no excess weight here. The very fine tannins are in perfect harmony with the wine's fruit. This will benefit from eight to ten years of cellaring.Inc. GSTSG$12,872.25 -
Burghound (96)
A gorgeously spiced and perfumed nose is intensely floral in character while offering up notes of both red and dark currant, sandalwood, exotic Asian-style tea and discreet dried rose petal nuances. The muscular yet refined big-bodied flavors exude ample minerality onto the powerful, focused and once again compact, focused and explosively long finish. This too is indisputably built-to-age and I wouldn't be surprised if it required fully 20 years before it is fully ready. In sum this Richebourg is one of the finest wines of the 2014 vintage.Inc. GSTSG$1,622.91 -
Vinous (98)
The 2016 Richebourg Grand Cru is deep in colour compared to its peers. The bouquet is just stunning: laser-like focus of black cherries, bilberry, crushed stone and iris flowers that blossom with aeration, seeming to gain intensity with every passing moment. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and perhaps more black than red fruit. Extremely well delineated with wonderful salinity, this begins to fan out on the finish. Then, remembering that it is just a baby, it tapers back in to remind you that it will need 10 to 15 years in the cellar before it reaches full flight. This is a fabulous wine. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$2,206.06 -
Vinous (96-98)
The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru has a showstopping, persistent bouquet of intense blackberry, sous-bois and crushed stone. The supremely well-balanced palate offers filigreed tannin, wonderful mineralité and an otherworldly-long finish. One of the most elegant Richebourgs that I have tasted. Best Richebourg in show this year? Quite possibly. Six barrels produced.Inc. GSTSG$1,530.26 -

Burghound (97)
As it was from barrel, the cool, restrained and even more layered nose requires considerable swirling to progressively coax the exuberantly spicy aromas of red and blue pinot fruit that is liberally laced with a variety of floral elements to reveal themselves. There is excellent volume and richness to the sleek and refined yet powerful flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract that helps to buffer the firm but not rigid tannic spine shaping the strikingly long and linear finish. This is brilliant but note well that like the 2019 version, it's going to require extended cellaring to realize its full, and considerable, potential.Inc. GSTSG$2,021.12 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)
A glowing crimson purple. A certain nobility to the nose. A brilliant combination of hedonism and precision, the expressive dense floral notes, waves of perfectly ripe red fruit, and that’s just the bouquet. Suave, sweetly fruited, nuanced, yet never losing site of the grace and the depth. Caresses all parts. Seamless finish with perfect acid and tannin balance. Drink from 2034-2045+. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. GSTSG$2,058.55 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (96-98)
The 2023 Richebourg Grand Cru has a typical nose for this vineyard, backward and a little stern at first. Its tightly wound redcurrant, cranberry and black plum fruit notes become more open with acquaintance. Apparently, it was very open the previous day, but this is in a mood! The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure and a beguiling sense of symmetry from start to finish. This might be the most elegant Richebourg that I have encountered from Grivot at this stage. It's very poised with an extremely long aftertaste. This will require serious cellaring.Inc. GSTSG$3,193.59 -

Vinous (93-95)
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has an inviting and quite sensual bouquet of crushed ripe strawberries, cranberry, touches of cassis and violet, showing good intensity. The palate is intense on the entry. No hanging about here; just penetrating spicy black fruit with a satin-like texture and a vibrant sorbet-like finish that leaves the mouth tingling with pleasure. Superb.Inc. GSTSG$2,129.27 -
(12x75cl) 1997Vinous (86)
Slightly fuller red. Spicy redcurrant, plum and a floral note on the nose. At once softer and less sweet than the '97 Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Charmois, but also a bit more diffuse. And yet this seems less evolved, less forthcoming today. Here the tannins are silkier, though.Inc. GSTSG$4,484.04 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brulées is distinguished by its gorgeous inner intensity and a solid core of expressive red fruit. Firm, powerful, yet also impeccable refined, the Brulées needs a few years to open up. The balance of fruit and tannin is impeccable. At times, the Brulées is at times a bit wild in its aromas and flavors, but texturally it is more polished. There is no shortage of personality here.Inc. GSTSG$492.22 -
Vinous (91-93)
Medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of raspberry, flint, pepper and smoky minerals. Fine-grained and seamless but at the same time vibrant and penetrating, offering lovely inner-mouth lift to the crunchy raspberry and pomegranate flavors. Finishes with subtle saline minerality and smooth tannins. Already very sexy but it would be a shame not to give this premier cru at least five years in the cellar.Inc. GSTSG$2,759.31 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has a southern orientation, but Mathilde Grivot was surprised that it only reached 13.0° alcohol; this was due, she believes, to the rain before the harvest. It takes a little time to cohere in the glass. After a couple of minutes, it offers lovely red and black fruit intermingling with black truffle and damp earthy/woodland aromas, delicate and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, precise and focused. Not a Aux Brûlées of substance and density, but rather one of precision and focus. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$2,862.86 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has an exquisitely-delineated bouquet with black plum and raspberry fruit that unfold with each swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly flinty opening, compact, quite peppery with a deepening and rather grippy finish. There is something sultry about this Aux Brûlées, a Premier Cru that will repay 4-5 years in the cellar.Inc. GSTSG$1,264.07 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (95-97)
The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has a wonderful, expressive bouquet with shimmering red berry fruit, white flowers and hints of blood orange. Very harmonious and poised. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins. It’s not powerful but tensile with an almost crystalline finish fanning out effortlessly. Superb.Inc. GSTSG$1,445.06 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (95-97)
The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru is a little taciturn at first, but it only takes a little aeration to reveal brambly red fruit, briar, black pepper and light graphite scents. This is quite complex and, like Grivot's other 2023s, very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasing crunchy texture on the entry. One of the more peppery Vosne-Romanées, again, you could be deceived into thinking there were stems in blend when there are none. It sashays toward a very harmonious finish. This is superb.Inc. GSTSG$1,394.87 -
Vinous (91-94)
Full ruby-red. Very primary, floral aromas of crushed dark berries and violet. Supple and densely packed but also tangy and penetrating. Captivating, complex cassis and black cherry inner-mouth perfume. Has the firm structure of the vintage without being hard. Finishes quite long and bright and solidly tannic. Should be a vin de garde. Grivot says a few of his '98 cuvées, including this one, should exceed his excellent '96s in complexity and volume.Inc. GSTSG$2,484.55 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92+)
Deep red. Enticing aromas of minerals, flowers, red licorice and earth. Impressively glyceral on entry, then sweet and silky in the middle, with noteworthy energy and grip. Impressively concentrated and dense wine, with an explosive, rising finish and terrific cut. This should be at its peak between 2010 and 2017, says Grivot.Inc. GSTSG$531.82 -
(12x75cl) 2007Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (89-92)
Bright medium red. Currant, plum and raspberry aromas are complicated by game and flowers. A bit tighter and more gripping than the Boudots; less lush today but showing good juicy intensity and definition of flavor and enticing minerality. Finishes fresh, firm and persistent.Inc. GSTSG$3,976.28 -

The 2008 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts is fresh, vibrant and beautifully explosive. The rich, layered fruit finds a fabulous counterpoint in the nuanced aromatics and chiseled finish. This is a beautiful, complete wine with a very bright future. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028.Inc. GSTSG$3,048.16 -
(1x75cl) 2009Wine Advocate (94+)
The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts is fabulous. Waves of fruit jump from the glass. The Beaux-Monts impresses for its textural depth and richness. There is an intense minerality to the fruit that gives the wine much of its power. The Beaux-Monts is firing on all cylinders today. A crescendo of fruit saturates the palate on the finish. This is another headspinning 2009 from Grivot. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.Inc. GSTSG$769.43 -
Vinous (94)
The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a generous and detailed bouquet with ample dark cherry, raspberry and subtle balsamic notes, later some lovely scents of morels and tobacco. It feels mercurial but utterly absorbing. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, harmonious and demonstrating much more vigor than its peers. This Premier Cru is bounding with energy and focus with a detailed, mineral-driven finish that is a pure joy. Superb. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.Inc. GSTSG$786.52 -
Wine Advocate (92+)
Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a rather leafy bouquet, perhaps some stem addition here, nicely defined with bay leaf and thyme. It seems to grow in stature in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, moderate acidity but it has clearly shut down towards the finish and feels static. There is a very impressive wine here, however it will need 4-5 years before it entertains the idea of drinkability. Tasted September 2016.Inc. GSTSG$1,881.86 -

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a wonderful, expressive bouquet, once you get past just a touch of reduction. Black cherries, raspberry and crushed stone all vie for attention, and the oak is very nicely integrated. The palate is sweet and generous on the entry, and super-fine tannins frame a mineral-driven, supremely well focused finish that lingers in the mouth. Top class. The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru presents a pure, well-defined nose offering sous-bois character and good focus. The palate is well balanced, nicely structured, not amazingly complex but strict, with a fresh, spicy finish that lingers. This needs time to resolve, but it should come through nicely. A little introverted, so be patient... this is Grivot, after all. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. GSTSG$1,854.61 -

Always one of Etienne and Mathilde Grivot's stand-out Premier Cru reds, this is not the most immediate of their cuvées at a young age, often displaying some grip and tannic backbone as well as a hint of meaty reduction, but the fruit concentration and depth is remarkable here, supported by chalky minerality and scented 30% new wood. Wonderfully patrician and well-structured.Inc. GSTSG$1,274.34 -

(just one barrel made in 2012): Good bright red. Cooler aromas of black fruits and flowers. Intensely flavored and light on its feet, but in a distinctly imploded stage. This juicy, tightly wound wine is downright rigorous today. If the Brulees is a horizontal wine, this is vertical. Racy acidity gives it a slightly spiky impression. I would have guessed this wine was made with stems but in fact Grivot, who does not believe in vinifying whole clusters, used a good percentage of uncrushed berries in the fermentation.Inc.
