Vinous (89-91)
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from three or four parcels within the commune. It has slightly darker fruit compared to the La Colombière, perhaps not quite as pixelated in style. The palate is fleshy and forward with succulent ripe tannins, good density and layer of raspberry, strawberry and spicebox toward the finish. Just a delicious Vosne-Romanée.Inc. GSTSG$2,252.46 -
Vinous (86-88)
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from all the domaine’s parcels except for La Colombière. This has a fragrant bouquet of rose-petal-tinged dark berry fruit; the 40% new oak is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. A little pinched at the moment, but it will flesh out with aeration. Fine.Inc. GSTSG$417.37 -

In keeping with the style of the vintage, the 2020 Vosne-Romanée from Mugneret-Gibourg is a rich, heady Burgundy, perhaps a bit big on its own, but very delicious on a cold winter day. Black cherry, spice, mocha and dried flowers all stain the palate. Dark and enveloping, with notable intensity, the Vosne-Romanée is a gorgeous village-level offering from this renowned domaine.Inc. The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Village is a blend of four parcels, cropped at 36hL/ha and matured in one-third new oak. It has a perfumed bouquet with wilted violets infusing the red berry fruit. The palate has a sense of brightness on the entry, hints of confit strawberry, just a very light marine note with a finely-structured, lightly-spiced, bitter cherry finish. This will be difficult to resist young.Inc. GSTSG$531.46 -

Wafting from the glass with notes of sweet plums, cherries and berries framed by a deft application of creamy new oak, the 2022 Vosne-Romanée Village is medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a fleshy core of fruit and a giving, polished profile this year.Inc. GSTSG$399.57 -

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts is showing well from bottle, unwinding in the glass to offer up a youthfully reserved bouquet of blackberries, cherries, plums, grilled game bird, rich soil and smoky new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and voluptuous, with a succulent core of fruit, vibrant fruit flavors and a fine-grained framing of structuring tannins. It's appreciably more reserved than earlier renditions of this cuvée, perhaps because Maxime Cheurlin now has an air-conditioned cellar and is maturing his wine for two winters in barrel. It will be interesting to follow its evolution over the coming decade.Inc. GSTSG$2,835.61 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (92-94)
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts is completely de-stemmed and raised in 100% new oak. Now this has a great bouquet: very well defined with intense black cherry and kirsch aromas, deftly controlled and focused. The medium-bodied palate displays dense tannin, and the new oak is quite vocal at the moment but should be subsumed with bottle age. Do I think less new oak would have been preferable? Yes. But I still think this should mature into a fine Les Beaux Monts.Inc. GSTSG$4,303.28 -

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru, matured in 80% new oak, has a very detailed, focused bouquet of blackberry, briar, raspberry jam and light orange peel aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly tarry opening, a smear of dark chocolate combining nicely with the dark berry fruit, but it is unapologetically backward and surly on the finish compared with the Echézeaux or the Vosne Les Chaumes, so give it some serious cellaring.Inc. The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a gorgeous bouquet that leaps from the glass: red cherries, wild strawberry and crushed stone scents with rose petal aromas emerging with aeration. Wonderful delineation and clever use of oak. The palate is well balanced with finely tuned tannins, perfectly judged acidity and neatly integrated oak. Good substance, rather backward on the black pepper-infused finish, but I can see this evolving well in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$365.05 -

Matured in 50% new oak, the 2014 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Chaumes has a surfeit of energy and tension on the nose that is very precise and defined. There is lovely focus here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very well judged acidity and a svelte, strawberry and raspberry confit finish that lingers nicely. This is struck through with sophistication and class...a case of less equals more.Inc. GSTSG$3,360.43 -

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a cohesive, focused bouquet of pure red cherries, bergamot and undergrowth scents and nicely integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannin and well-judged acidity. Touches of spice and blood orange toward the sustained finish complete a really quite joyful 2015 Burgundy. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$2,105.31 -
Wine Advocate (91-93)
The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes, which includes around 20% to 25% whole bunch fruit, has a very elegant, restrained bouquet that just lets the blackberry and raspberry fruit flow from the glass, the oak neatly integrated and not imposing. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry. Again, I appreciate the purity of fruit, the finesse and the charm of this Vosne-Romanée. There is plenty of crunchy red berry fruit on the finish and a pinch of spice. Super bon, as they say in France.Inc. GSTSG$354.88 -

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a tightly wound, slightly earthy bouquet with scents of kirsch, blueberry and violet, quite showy but kept on a tight leash. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, gentle grip and quite a dense, minerally finish that lingers in the mouth. There is a discreet confit element here. Good potential, because you can feel the energy.Inc. GSTSG$2,292.23 -

(this wine was bottled in August of 2017): Good dark red with ruby tones. Very ripe aromas of dark raspberry, licorice pastille and cinnamon, plus a sexy suggestion of torrefaction. Then fresher in the mouth than the nose suggests, displaying a lovely combination of sweet, seamless red berry fruit and vibrant acidity. Velvety and a bit high-toned in the middle palate, but the finish leaves the salivary glands humming. Cheurlin noted that his 2015s were bottled unfined and unfiltered, with volatile acidity levels around 0.6 to 0.65 grams per liter, which contributes to their early aromatic appeal.Inc.
