    Wine Advocate (93)

The 2015 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Corvées Pagets, one of Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux's emblematic wines, wafts from the glass with a complex bouquet of plums, candied peel, violets and raspberries. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and complete, with a deep core of fruit, crystalline purity, and fine-grained but chalky tannins. Structurally, this is classic Premeaux.

    Vinous (92)

Translucent red cherry fruit and lifted aromatics make a strong first impression in the 2014 Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Allots. Beams of supporting tannin and a burst of saline-infused energy give the 2014 its shape. The 2014 is clearly still recovering from its bottling. Still, the wine's focus is admirable. In many ways, the Aux Allots encapsulates the nervous yet precise, sinewy personality of the year. Next to the other village-level wines the Aux Allots is a bit compact.

  • Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porets-Saint-Georges 2016 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92+)

Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porêts-Saint-Georges is one of Faiveley's most brooding and reserved wines this year, unfurling in the glass with notes of earthy black cherries, cassis, dark chocolate, grilled game bird and rich spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a tight-knit core, an abundance of fine but firm structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish. If opened today, this Nuits is better on day two or three, and while it's excellent, it will demand more patience than pretty much any other cuvée in the range.

A lightly spiced nose of red currant cassis and violet aromas is trimmed in soft wood notes that precede the supple and moderately well-concentrated yet relatively fine medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent depth and length in a well-balanced package. Densely packed and concentrated, with savory dark berry, floral and licorice flavors leading to a youthfully powerful if rather strict finish. • Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 2013 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers felt a little reduced on the nose -- though that is common with infant Gouges. At the moment it compromises the wine's definition, which is a pity as there is attractive red cherry and redcurrant fruit waiting to surface. That will be addressed with bottle age. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, some chewiness that will dissipate with time and good depth. It feels a little chunky and uncouth towards the finish although it does improve and gain more cohesion in the glass. Time should meliorate this wine, so afford it 3-4 years in bottle. Aromas of cassis, dark plums, baking chocolate and rosehip introduce the 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale, a full-bodied, rich and layered wine with a broad-shouldered chassis of fine, stony tannins that are entirely enveloped in fleshy, gourmand fruit. The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Pruliers was much more backward on the nose compared to the 2014 les Roncières when I tasted it at the domaine; this is broody and a bit sulky at the moment. The palate is more expressive with fine, saturated tannin. The new oak is a little more prominent here and will need time to be absorbed, but there is plenty of fruité and density on the finish; plus there is tangible mineralité and indeed, spiciness on the finish that has more concentration than Etienne Grivot's other Nuits-Saint-Georges. Very charming, pure, intense fruit (more intense and rather riper than usual for this wine) with tannins still a little more evident than I would have expected. Lots of fun and a versatile wine to enjoy with fish main courses.

  • Jacques-Frederic Mugnier Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Marechale 2016 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

Aromas of cassis, dark plums, baking chocolate and rosehip introduce the 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale, a full-bodied, rich and layered wine with a broad-shouldered chassis of fine, stony tannins that are entirely enveloped in fleshy, gourmand fruit. This vintage is atypically rich and concentrated, so it's hard to predict if and when it will shut down.

  • Jacques-Frederic Mugnier Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Marechale 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91-93)

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale 1er Cru, which is usually the first to be picked, has a really delightful bouquet, very expressive and displaying fine mineralité. The precise, detailed palate is well balanced, offering mineral tension, a fine line of acidity and a crisp, vibrant finish. Superb.

  • Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 2014 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92-94)

The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Pruliers was much more backward on the nose compared to the 2014 les Roncières when I tasted it at the domaine; this is broody and a bit sulky at the moment. The palate is more expressive with fine, saturated tannin. The new oak is a little more prominent here and will need time to be absorbed, but there is plenty of fruité and density on the finish; plus there is tangible mineralité and indeed, spiciness on the finish that has more concentration than Etienne Grivot's other Nuits-Saint-Georges. Superb.

  • Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 2015 (6x75cl)

    Burghound (91-94)

This is riper still with liqueur-like dark berry fruit aromas that are liberally laced with spice, earth and game nuances. There is outstanding richness and volume to the seductively textured mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the firm, serious and ever-so-mildly rustic finale that is very Nuits in character.

  • Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Roncieres 2015 (6x75cl)

    Burghound (91-93)

As it should, this presently has an entirely different aromatic profile with its ripe and fresh combination of earth and sauvage characters together with both red and dark currant scents. Here too there is really lovely mouth feel to the tautly muscular flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the energetic, detailed and beautifully persistent finish. This is also admirably seamless and should amply reward extended keeping.

  • L'Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forets Saint-Georges 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

Offering up a deep bouquet of cassis, plums, dark chocolate and spices, the 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St Georges is medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a textural attack, melting tannins, ripe acids and a deep core of sapid fruit. The finish is impressively long and nicely defined. Deeper and fleshier than the more ethereal Clos d'Arlot, this will blossom with a little bottle age, but it's sufficiently elegant and expressive to be approachable sooner.

  • Leroy Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots 2011 (3x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

The 2011 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots is slightly deeper in color compared to the Aux Vignerondes while the bouquet is very different, more marine-influenced, slightly estuarine. The palate is medium-bodied with a heavenly satin-like entry. The acidity is perfectly pitched, this Nuits building in the mouth toward a complete, harmonious, almost Romanee-Saint-Vivant like finish that caresses the mouth and exudes wonderful mineralite. This transcends the vintage.

    Vinous (96)

Tasted next to the Vignerondes, the 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots is quite a bit fleshier. Silky tannins and soft, racy curves give the Boudots much of its distinctive personality. This is a decidedly sumptuous style of Nuits. Although it is naturally an infant, today the Boudots is absolutely stellar. I loved it.

  • Louis Jadot (Gagey) Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots 2014 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

Medium red. Cool, subtly herbal scents of raspberry, licorice, black pepper and leather, plus a hint of medicinal menthol. Supple, spicy and fine-grained, conveying a subtle sweetness to its raspberry and spice flavors. Opens nicely to fill the mouth, but without leaving any impression of heaviness. Delivers lovely perfumed lift--and darker fruits than it showed a year ago in the barrel. Finishes fresh, classically dry and persistent, with a fine dusting of tannins. Not particularly backward in the context of this collection.

  • Louis Jadot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges 2015 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (90-92)

Medium red. Less fruity and more medicinal on the nose than the Vaucrains, offering complex scents of dark raspberry, dried flowers, mocha and earth. Then plush, silky and fine-grained on the palate, offering lovely floral lift to its raspberry fruit. The firm tannins turn a touch dry with air. (This cuvée is not vinified by Jadot.)

The communes of Nuits Saint Georges and Premeaux-Prissey combine to produce both red and white wines in the appellation of Nuits Saint Georges on the Cote de Nuits. There are no Grand Cru vineyards in Nuits Saint Georges but the wines from the premier crus bordering Vosne-Romanee are often the most sought after due to their “Vosne-like” finesse.
