Wine Advocate (94-96)The 2012 Musigny Grand Cru comes from Prieur’s 0.77-hectare parcel located in the southern section of the grand cru close to Clos de Vougeot. This year it deigned the world with 9 barrels of which seven were new. It clearly has the most sophisticated, complex bouquet of the domaine’s reds in 2012 adorned with blackberry, raspberry leaf, creme de cassis, minerals and incense. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation. This has a firm backbone that lends this Musigny a sense of masculinity and sternness, a 2012 that demands you come back in 2022. Very focused with fine mineralite on the finish, this should be cellared away for a number of years. Finally, there is the small matter (literally) of what to my knowledge is one of the most elusive wines in Burgundy. |

Burghound (93-95)(Don't Miss!) The breezy nose is also overtly spicy with markedly ripe yet fresh aromas of plum liqueur, cassis and Asian-style tea nuances. There is outstanding concentration to the powerful yet polished and sleek broad-shouldered and mineral-inflected flavors that are at once muscular and refined while delivering positively terrific depth and length. I very much like the balance and this stunner of a wine should also reward longer-term cellaring. |

Burghound (92-94)A brooding and beautifully complex nose of spiced plum and a remarkably broad mix of dark berry fruit scents is trimmed in a background application of wood. The opulent, rich, round, velvety and wonderfully refined middle weight flavors display excellent mid-palate density and impressive volume on the superbly long finish where a touch of menthol appears. This too is really very good but note well that it's indisputably built-to-age. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru, which is completely de-stemmed, has a very sensual and generous bouquet with very pretty black cherries, raspberry preserve, overripe Satsuma and mineral scents that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, more backward than the aromatics at the moment but very well balanced with super-fine tannin framing the feminine and quite persistent finish. Good potential here. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed. It has a well-defined bouquet of intense blackberry, bilberry and light floral scents, plus touches of incense and pressed iris flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and quite firmly structured, so that it grips the mouth (though not as forcefully as the 2018 Chambertin). The spicy finish lingers in the mouth. Very fine. |

Tim Atkin MW (97)Wildly scented with mulberries, sweet spice, underbrush and department store perfume counter (in a pleasant way), this is aromatically enchanting. Beautifully balanced, the tannins caress while the acidity invigorates the palate. The finish is achingly long. These 75 ares sit just before the chilly Combe d'Orveau and so were picked on September 1st, the penultimate day of harvest. 2024-42 |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)3 barrels made. Vibrant purple with a little touch of whole bunch character. Very gracious soft dense dark fruit on the palate, the tannins are very fine here, which is not the case for every Bonnes Mares in 2018. This has been well judged. |

Vinous (95)The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, which comprises of just two barrels this year, has a highly-perfumed and precise bouquet that is actually reminiscent of Christophe Roumier's Bonnes-Mares. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame the multi-layered fruit. Fine grip, structured, saline and aristocratic on the finish. This will need time but will most certainly be worth the wait. |

Vinous (93)The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an open nose of brambly red fruit, sous-bois and wilted rose petals, very pure and charming, and not dissimilar in style to François Bertheau's Chambolle 1er Cru. The palate is very harmonious, open and transparent. It feels lighter than others, yet the tension and precision will see this age with style, and perhaps it will not close down. Tempting now, but I would prefer to wait. Classy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. |

Vintage Tastings (95)The 1985 Drouhin Musigny was again a better bottle than the last time I had this wine just three months ago. What's up with Drouhin showing better in Hong Kong? Maybe it likes the humidity here. It was the most open of this flight, in '85 fashion, sweet and gamy and full of Pinot fruit. Caramel kisses and damp earth rounded out its nutty nose. Paul agreed this was a better bottle than the one he had recently as well; in fact, I think it was the same bottle we shared in New York, or same batch. This bottle was in a perfect spot and still ascending. |

Vinous (94)The 1989 Musigny Grand Cru is comparatively deep in color with thin bricking on the rim. This has a beguiling nose of darker fruit mixed with autumn leaves, black truffle and morels, becoming more and more floral with time. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins; hints of Lapsang Souchong infuse the red and black fruit, cloves and spice toward the finish. Maybe a little foursquare, yet given my indifference to this Burgundy vintage, it shows extremely well. Tasted at the Drouhin Musigny vertical in London. |

Vinous (93)The 1996 Musigny Grand Cru has an enticing, well-defined bouquet of dark berries, iris flower, dried blood and pine needle scents, opening nicely with aeration. Medium-bodied and, like many 1996s, quite backward and burly in style; a masculine Musigny with traces of freshly rolled tobacco on the finish. Moderate length. This has clearly got legs, though where is it going to go? Tasted at the Drouhin Musigny vertical in London. |

Burghound (93)(Don't Miss!) An exotic and spicy nose features raspberry, red current, anise and clove notes that give way to sweet, classy and notably finely detailed flavors that are also relatively forward early but tighten up considerably on the backend. In most vintages, this is the undisputed class of the cellar and while it may ultimately be so once again, in 2004 it has competition. Still, lovely stuff by any standard. |

Burghound (96)A broad-ranging and more expressive nose consists of a wonderful range of spice elements together with notes of black tea, earth and floral hints. There is strikingly good intensity and real power to the overtly muscular big-bodied flavors that ooze a fine dry extract that imparts a suave, even velvety mouth feel to the robust finale that also delivers superb persistence. As the best examples of Musigny always are, this delivers that inimitable combination of power and finesse and in doing so deserves the high compliment of being a 'wow' wine. |
