Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (94)Heavy on the spice, a ton of concentration, even in a vintage like 2022 with its natural exuberance. They build this wine with an eye on the long term, and even after En Primeur it underlines that character of dark fruits, big tannins, slate scrape, espresso and a natural unfussy confidence. Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)The 2018 Soutard is an inky, exuberant wine. Raspberry jam, mocha, licorice, cedar and blood orange saturate the palate. Sweet floral/spiced top notes add lift, but Soutard is mostly a wine of textural resonance and creaminess. Ripe, silky tannins wrap around the succulent finish. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)The 2019 Soutard is a heady, exuberant wine. Succulent black cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice and spice lend notable depth to this decidedly potent, full-bodied Saint-Émilion. All the elements come together so effortlessly. Soutard has really come together nicely with élevage. Its creamy, layered personality is super-impressive. There is a ton of intensity, but plenty of freshness, too. |

Jeb Dunnuck (95-97)Another gorgeous wine from this estate, the 2020 Château Soutard offers the fresh, pure, lively style of the vintage beautifully as well as offering ample red, blue, and black fruits, notes of graphite, crushed stone, and violets, seamless tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. This is elegance paired with power, and it's going to benefit from just 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 20+. Bravo! |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2021 Soutard unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums and spices mingled with hints of violet and iris. Medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, it's deep and layered, with an impressively concentrated core of pure, vibrant fruit that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins and integrated acids. Transcending the vintage, this property's relentless upward trajectory continues. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)I love this château, and the 2019 Château Soutard-Cadet is another brilliant wine that's in the same ballpark as the 2018. Sporting a deep purple hue as well as a rich, powerful nose of ripe black fruits, scorched earth, spicy oak, graphite, and damp earth, it's rich and concentrated, yet the purity is brilliant, it has silky and perfectly ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. As I wrote from barrel, it's going to benefit from just 2-4 years of bottle age and, I suspect, have 20, 25, if not 30 years of overall longevity. |

Jeb Dunnuck (94-96)Another incredible wine from Marie Lefévère, the 2020 Château Soutard-Cadet boasts a dense purple hue as well as awesome cassis and darker, almost blue fruits to go with lots of tobacco leaf, graphite, crushed stone, and background oak. It’s another medium to full-bodied, pure, seamless wine in the vintage that stays focused and elegant on the palate, with ripe, polished tannins. The purity of fruit is terrific as well. |

Jeb Dunnuck (93+)I was able to taste the 2021 Château Soutard-Cadet on multiple occasions and it never failed to impress. Red plums, subtle cassis, graphite, and a beautiful sense of minerality define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a vibrant, pure, focused mouthfeel, nicely integrated tannins, and a great finish. It clearly has the fresher, cooler style of the vintage yet this has density and depth. It's a gorgeous wine that will benefit from just a few years in the cellar and keep for 15+ if well stored. The blend is 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, raised in 70% new barrels (225- and 500-liter.) |
