The 2014 Doisy-Daëne has a fragrant bouquet with dried honey, almond, peach skin and orange blossom aromas that gently unfold with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and poised with a captivating undercurrent of mineralité that surfaces towards the finish and counters the richness of this finely made Sauternes. The first bottle of 2016 Doisy-Daëne was corked. The second is clean and precise on the nose, offering honeycomb, lanolin, crushed rocks and light yellow flower aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is very well balanced, and a fine bead of acidity cuts through the intense botrytized fruit. Very harmonious and poised, with impressive intensity on the finish. This is a marvelous Sauternes. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Inc. GSTSG$380.89 -

The 2017 Doisy-Daëne is so compelling. Rich and ample in the glass, the 2017 just blossoms with a bit of time. Candied apricot, exotic white flowers, mint, hazelnut and chamomile notes confer richness. The 2017 is deep, powerful and wonderfully resonant from start to finish. Moreover, it has very few peers in this vintage, one of them being the top-of-the line L'Extravagant.Inc. GSTSG$434.26 -

The 2023 Château Doisy Daëne is another ripe, powerful wine, yet it brings a juicy, lively style in its sweet peach, citrus, and orange fruit as well as notes of candied ginger, mint, and sappy floral aromas and flavors. Limpid gold in color, the 2001 Doisy-Védrines offers beeswax, honeysuckle and quince jelly on the nose; hints of gingerbread emerge with time. The oak comes through a bit here, which is odd after two decades. The palate is vibrant and tensile on the entry, delivering the weight one expects from this Barsac, allied with a fine bead of acidity that imparts tension. Tangy marmalade and quince notes appear toward the finish. This is a fine Doisy-Védrines that is à point.Inc. GSTSG$1,079.97 -

One of my favorites of the vintage, the 2023 Doisy-Vedrines is superb, revealing a lively, complex and perfumed bouquet of pineapple, orange zest, spices, honey and ripe orchard fruits, accented by subtle minty nuances. Medium- to full-bodied, generous and enveloping, it remains vibrant and tensile, structured by refined gastronomic bitterness and concluding with a long, ethereal finish that is distinctly Barsac in character. Containing 150 grams per liter of residual sugar, the blend comprises 90% Sémillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc.Inc. GSTSG$743.16 -

(12x75cl) 2011The Domaine de Cambes 2011 is an exceptional vintage that speaks volumes to the passion and ingenuity that the Bordeaux region's wine cultivation represents. This exquisite red blend is a creation from François Mitjavile's prestigious vineyards, nestled in the scenic banks of the Gironde river.
Domaine de Cambes 2011 bears Mitjavile's signature style of meticulous late harvesting, combined with the inimitable terroir of the Right Bank. The harvest yielded a profound, elegantly crafted blend of primarily Merlot with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, carefully fermented in large wooden vats and matured in French oak barrels for 18 to 24 months.
On pouring, Domaine de Cambes 2011 reveals a vibrant ruby hue, leading towards an exotic bouquet of ripe black fruits, spices and hints of espresso. Its velvety composition, balanced acidity and alluring complexity make it a prized asset to any connoisseur's collection.

(6x75cl) 2013Vinous - Ian D'Agata (86-89)
Dark ruby-red. Aromas and flavors of blackberry syrup and vanilla, with strong torrefaction notes of smoke and coffee. Very smooth-verging-on-opulent, finishing with good length, but the rising tannins leave a hint of bitterness. This reminded me of a Roc de Cambes from a more successful vintage. Owner/winemaker Francois Mitjaville explained that this wine managed to be fleshy, supple and smoky because nearly tropical conditions softened the skins and broke down the tannins. Essentially, the grapes marinated, he told me. These conditions, according to Mitjavile, were not present on the hillsides where Roc de Cambes is made and explain why Domaine de Cambes is smoky and soft in 2013 while Roc is not. The production here was just 25 hectoliters per hectare, down 70% from normal.Inc. GSTSG$483.31 -

The 2016 Domaine des Cambes is just as delicious from bottle as it was from barrel. Sumptuous and super-expressive, the 2016 is a beautifully forward, inviting wine.
