The 2021 is naturally not as deep or opulent as some recent vintages, but it nevertheless has plenty of complexity and character, not to mention the stylish personality that makes it one of the most distinctive wines in all of Bordeaux. I loved the 2021 Château Destieux, a classy, medium-bodied, impressive 2021 that has ample darker berry fruits, some classy background oak, ripe tannins, and textbook Saint-Emilion notes of graphite, crushed stone, and leafy herbs. It's beautiful today yet should benefit from just a few years of bottle age.

Vinous - Neal Martin (89-91)

The 2021 Deyrem Valentin contains more Cabernet this year at 75% of the blend. This really shows on the nose that is dark in fruit with lifted graphite and cedar aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, quite fresh, slightly chalky in texture, maybe missing just a little sensuality on the finish. It needs three years to fully absorb the oak. But there is a citrus element to this Margaux that I like, with satisfying length.

Open and appealing aromatically. Red-fruit and toasted notes. Juicy and sweet but appetising as well. Slight burgundian nuance. Lighter framed but the fruit is there.
