Jancis Robinson (17)Owned by the Thienpont family, the wine made by Nicolas Thienpont. Includes 15% Sauvignon Gris. Only a third of the vines survived the frost. Sauvignon Blanc (85%) clones from the Loire. Fresh herby citrus and some nice notes of orange peel. Almost peachy on the palate but excellent freshness and intensity, clean cut. Bright and lively and deliciously mouth-watering. Persistent, too. Orange-peel aftertaste. Lovely. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)The 2017 Quintus is super impressive today. Sweet floral and spice nuances give the 2017 its striking aromatic upper register. Rich and dense on the palate, Quintus is a bold, hedonistically opulent Saint-Émilion in 2017. Soaring Franc overtones play off the Merlot nicely, adding both aromatic presence and a real feeling of saline intensity that comes through, especially on the finish. Today, the 2017 is a touch exuberant - almost too much so. Another few years in bottle should help it settle down. The 2017 is not at all subtle, but it has a lot to offer. Here, too, élevage has done wonders for the wine. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90+)The 2017 Rauzan Gassies is expressive and full of energy, but also done in a somewhat compact style. Dried cherry, iron, mint, white pepper, grilled herbs, cedar and tobacco come together in the glass. I very much like the wine's energy, even if the contours are a bit austere today. The 2017 could turn out to be even better than this note suggests if the tannin soften. |

Jeb Dunnuck (98)Getting a big “Wow” in my notes, the 2017 Chateau Rieussec is an extraordinary Sauternes that has everything. Awesome notes of orange zest, honeyed flowers, ripe pineapple, peach, and spice all soar from the glass, and this beauty is already complex, has full-bodied richness and power, a great mid-palate, and a beautiful spine of acidity. It's a brilliant, brilliant wine that can be enjoyed today or cellared for two decades or more. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)The 2017 Roc de Cambes is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. Rich, dense and explosive, with tremendous power the 2017 is positively stellar from the very first taste. Macerated dark cherries, sage, spice, star anise, orange zest, mint and new leather give the 2017 an exotic, racy feel that is hard to fully describe. In the glass, the 2017 possesses off the charts aromatic intensity and tons of pure fruit richness, while the 100% new oak is barely perceptible. Readers lucky enough to find it will enjoy a wine of tremendous character and personality. This is an absolutely stunning wine from Francois and Nina Mitjavile. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2017 Rocheyron, owned by Pete Sisseck, offers ripe red cherry and cranberry fruit on the nose that does not quite have the delineation of the previous two vintages. The palate offers pretty dark cherry fruit laced with soy, a fine bead of acidity and whilst not a deep nor powerful Saint-Émilion, it has a finely tuned, truffle-tinged finish that lingers. Whilst not up to the level of the 2016, there is a panache already sewn into this wine. |

A rush of inky dark fruit, lavender, bittersweet chocolate, spice and licorice build as this sumptuous, exotic beauty shows off all of its allure. The 2017 is not at all subtle, but it sure is gorgeous. Rouget was stellar en primeur. It is every bit as impressive from bottle. |

Jeb Dunnuck (92)From a great terroir just beside Chateau Pavie and showing better from bottle than barrel, the 2017 Chateau Saint Georges (Cote Pavie) (80/20 Merlot and Cabernet Franc) spent 16 months in just 30% new barrels. It offers a textbook bouquet of black raspberries, white flowers, truffle, and flower incense that carries to a medium to full-bodied 2017 with plenty of tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and outstanding length. It's a terrific release from this estate, which appears to be on the upswing. It needs a solid 3-4 years of bottle age yet should evolve gracefully for 15 years or more. |

Jeb Dunnuck (94)A blend of 85% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Chateau Sansonnet is another beautiful wine from the talented Marie-Benedicte Lefevere. With loads of creme de cassis and black raspberry fruit as well as notes of leafy herbs, flowers, and spicy oak, it hits the palate with medium to full body, a beautiful sense of elegance and purity, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It doesn't have the density or breadth of the 2016, but it’s a remarkable wine in the vintage.
