Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 La Fleur Pétrus has a mint-fresh bouquet, vigorous and vivid, with delineated red cherry, raspberry and cassis fruit under which is a strata of wet limestone. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is a more understated Pomerol but there is real nuance here, black truffle and leather tinging the introspective black fruit. Yet behind that is harmony and finesse, notwithstanding impressive length and sustain. Renowned for its exquisite finesse and robust allure, the Poisot Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru 2010 is the embodiment of exceptional winemaking. Crafted in the revered vineyards of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy, France, this red wine demonstrates a celebrated union of Pinot Noir grapes' vibrant character and the climatic idiosyncrasies of its terroir. Wine producer Rémi Poisot, a fourth-generation vintner, meticulously cultivates these grapes in a 0.48-hectare plot that holds unique geological complexities. Advanced viticultural practices with organic farming principles and manual harvest contribute significantly to the distinguished elegance of the Poisot Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru 2010. An intricate ageing process in oak barrels further amplifies its sophisticated profile, offering aromatic hints of red cherries, spice, and earthy minerals. On the palate, it reveals a profound depth with a stunning balance of acidity and tannins, cementing its place as an exquisite treasure amongst the world's finest wines.

The phenomenal 2010 Reserva is produced with 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and some 5% of the skins of Malvasía and Viura grapes used for the white wine after it finished fermenting. Here, they select the grapes from some of their best and oldest vineyards, put them in cold storage for 24 hours and then exclusively select the grapes from the top half of the bunches. It fermented in 7,000-liter oak vats and small stainless steel tanks followed by malolactic and 25 months aging in new French barriques. This is a vintage that deserves to be laid down in the cellar, as it has all the components and the balance to develop into a superb classical Rioja with a few more years in bottle. Everything seems to be in its place, and all components show high quality: the tannins, the acidity, the oak, the fruit... Highly recommended. One for the cellar. 72,000 bottles produced.
