Vinous (88)The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is matured in 20% new oak. It has a generous bouquet with orchard fruit, touches of almond and patisserie. It will require a couple of years to absorb the oak. The palate is well-balanced, with a fine bead of acidity countering the richness, though it needs to muster a little more complexity on the finish. |

Decanter (95)This isn’t strictly speaking a domaine wine from Joseph Drouhin, but the contract with the Marquis de Laguiche is so long that it might as well be. Showing impressive concentration, yeasty, textured weight, delightful 25% new wood and notes of beeswax and lanolin, it finishes with freshness, minerality, commendable poise and some skin-tannin grip. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)Clear pale colour, a refined and chiselled nose. A little quality oak now emerges to flesh out the bouquet. The fruit is very evenly distributed across the palate, still with an oak presence, a little sandalwood, a good mix between fruit and acidity, and a fine long finish. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted: November 2023. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)Full primrose. There is an initial richness which cannot quite hide the stones beneath, nor should it. Terrific energy at the back of the palate, more so than Romanée, with fine length and the saline touch last seen in the Perrières. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023. |

Falstaff (94)Light, still slightly cloudy yellow-green, silver glints. A fragrant hint of fresh orange zest, fine yellow stone fruit, underpinned by a little mango and pineapple, mineral touch in the background. Full-bodied, fine fruit expression, tightly woven, silky texture, pleasant acidity, followed by soft notions of yellow tropical fruit on the finish. Length and potential for development. |

Decanter (95)Tasted from magnum. Although this was a vintage affected by botrytis, it's not really evident on the nose, which is vivid, herbal and smoky. It still displays explosive fruit, rich but fresh, spicy and zesty. It's full-bodied but very mineral, and any botrytis is now integrated into the palate. The finish is persistent but not aggressive. Overall, a magnificent demonstration of how these wines can age. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2001 Weissenkirchen Ried Achleiten Riesling Smaragd is very clear and fresh on the intense but botrytis-free nose, with herbal and floral tea aromas complementing the clear apricot notes. Pure, salty, fresh and very elegant on the palate, this is a gorgeous matured Riesling with great vitality and tension, still with good grip and a dry, straight character. Very salty. Great and ready to go for another decade or more. Tasted in Dürnstein, Wachau, September 2018. |
